"Rude Security Overshadowed Our Experience"

We usually stay at Portofino Bay when visiting Universal, but this year we were tempted to stay at Helios. Wanting to get a feel of the hotel before giving up our favorite resort, we booked a 7pm dinner at Flora Taverna. Upon arrival, several security guards couldn’t direct us to the restaurant, and one bald guard, unconvinced we were there to dine, rudely told us we had to leave by 9pm—before we had even started our meal. Dinner itself was excellent, but in all our travels, we have never been told when to leave a restaurant beforehand in such a manner. It left us wondering if we were being judged by our appearance or if that kind of behavior is tolerated at Helios. Portofino Bay staff/guards would never treat guests this way, and we are glad we decided not to stay at Helios, knowing we might receive that treatment daily.

"Not quite epic"

Arrived 8th Aug 2025. Staff were welcoming, helpful, and the hotel is stunning. We didn’t book a park view room but were given one, and the view was beautiful. Location is ideal for Epic, but early park entry is a let-down. It only gives access to two rides (Monsters Unchained and Stardust Racers), with Stardust running just one track during early access – ruining the duelling coaster experience. Staff denied this, but multiple guests confirmed they don’t run both tracks until 10am. So, why pay a premium for “early access” that offers less than regular hours? The real benefit is being able to return to the hotel midday, not ride access. Rooftop bar is overrated, smells of fish, and the view is blocked by the Helios sign. Our room (202) was above the gym, where loud morning music made alarms and TV inaudible. Pool bar was lovely, but even there, one grey cloud and everyone was evacuated. Nice hotel, but “early access” is misleading and not worth the premium.

"Exceptional! Must book theme park view room"

We were thrilled to be able to book the Theme park view right when the first seconds it went to public back in October 2025 for stays in July. The scale of the hotel was inspiring, artsy, just impressive. We loved the ambience, the Zeus statue as well as the view to the theme park. Direct access to the theme park was the biggest perk of this property. While we were there in July, I felt that you did not need to hurry and queue for the security before 8AM. We came down around 8.15AM each morning and the queue had dried up in the security. However, you had to wait in the holding area inside Epic but outside the property. The three mornings we were there, it was enough time to be the one of the first people to reach the Donkey Kong, the Harry Potter and the Dark Universe rides. Check in was smooth and quick. The receptionist was friendly, engaging and informative. The room was very well designed, modern and luxurious. Quiet and restful. The room amenities were excellent. The operations of lights, curtains and AC were controlled by the Ipad, a really cool feature. We enjoyed the nightly fountain show from the room. However, had there be the nightly fountain show's music playing in the room would really elevate the experience even more. We spent most of our time at Epic and dined at various places at Epic. Thus, we could not really comment on their food offering. We really loved the hotel and would not hesitate to come back the next time we visit Epic.

"Family trip to check out new EPIC Universal "

booked Helios hotel and Epic tickets with our amazing Travel Planner ( Courtney @ Mad Hatter  adventures travel) when hotel was taking reservations.  My kids and husband were super excited about the new park and the proximity of the new hotel.  We arrived @ Hotel after getting off a Disney cruise.  The hotel and grounds were beautiful.  The front desk staff we had interaction with were helpful and kind.  Game changer is the view of the park👍👍👍 at night when we were back @ Hotel we got an amazing view of the show.   Entering the park couldn't of been easier 👍. Did the early entry one day and rode a few rides without fast pass or any line.   Here are some problems/challenges they need to work through.  If you're not doing Epic don't have any choices for eating options besides overpriced hotel food.  My teen daughter was hungry when we arrived back from Universal so went down to snack shop. She got a Yougert Parfait and cheese and crackers.  It costed $50 and my husband confirmed these 2 things are $50🤯🤯 Felt completely ripped off and would NOT buy or  eat at hotel establishment.  The other bummer after spending tons of money @ Universal for the freestyle refillable cups CAN'T use the HOTEL freestyle machine.  And can't go TO EPIC to fill if it's isn't your park day there.   Who is staying at this hotel and NOT going to EPIC Universal.  Felt Penny pitched.  We stay @ hotel for 4 nights.  Only convient t for EPIC.  Taking bus to UNIVERSAL Park is about 15 minutes.  They are working out bus system.  Told they run every 30 minutes.  Wished there was a more organized cue when u arrive @ convient bus stop.  Stop was convenient and drivers friendly.   I hate buses to theme parks.  Have to think how to manage a split stay when doing all the Universal parks bc this pricy hotel is ONLY convenient for Epic entry.    The one thing that drove me nuts was cyonsteant sound even in our room.  The  Epic theme park plays sound music outside our hotel by fountain show ALL day , early morning and late into the night 10pm.  I had a migraine one day and all this sound was driving me crazy and woke me up @ 630.  At least  only run it when the park is open.    Surely this bothered other light sleepers.  This maybe a reason I have to stay at a different resort.

We have a had a great trip ⸻ We had a fantastic stay at the Helios Universal Hotel. From the Reception team to the VIP staff, every member of the hotel team provided excellent service. Although we experienced a minor hiccup with our upgraded room, the VIP team—especially Andrew, Andreu, and Dominique—handled the situation swiftly and professionally. Their prompt assistance ensured that our trip remained a truly memorable Universal experience. I would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Helios Universal Hotel. The Dunning family.
