We stayed at Chateau on the Lake a few years ago and were pleased with the accommodations in relation to the cost. So, when planning our trip to Branson this year, we didn’t even consider anyplace else. I so wish I had read the recent reviews before booking. To begin with we arrived at 2pm. They told us that we could go ahead and check in for a $50 fee. We travel extensively to very high dollar resorts and have never been asked a fee when they could get us in a room this close to check in. As we had traveled all day, we agreed and paid the fee. Then they told us we had to pay a daily resort fee of around $26 per day. Ok, fine, a lot of places charge a resort fee. But….they then told us that we also had to pay a $10 a day parking fee! Keep in mind that there is nothing around that would have non guests parking in their lot. Also, there is a sign stating they aren’t responsible for any damage that might occur to your vehicle. They are charging you to park but tough luck, it’s not their responsibility for security in the lot. Again, you have a reservation you’ve already paid for to the tune of $324 per night so what can you do but pay a parking fee. The lobby area is nice. Move on to the room. It’s sufficient, but I’ve paid less for much nicer rooms. The rooms could use a refresh. It was clean. The soaps, shampoos etc were full but I was glad I had brought my own because the scent was rather off putting. The room does not include complimentary bottled water. There are 2 bottles in the room and they are $7 dollars each. They do provide a few coffee pods and condiments. They do not send housekeeping daily unless you request it. We were fine with that since we were only going to be there a few days. We were told if we needed additional towels or coffee refills that we could request them to be brought up or stop at the desk and pick them up. We opted to stop at the desk. We requested towels and coffee. They were out of these items when we stopped at the desk so they said they would send someone up. A hotel employee arrived shortly thereafter and brought the towels but not the coffee and condiments we had requested. I’ll be honest, I expected them to tell me there was a charge for them to bring the items to us. Fortunately, they didn’t. The first night we were there an alarm sounded telling us we needed to go to the main floor by way of the stairwells. We found out later that someone on the 7th floor had pulled a fire alarm. This was in no way the hotels’s fault. But, when we got to the first floor we had to search for someone to tell us it was a false alarm. It didn’t seem that the employees really knew what the protocol for this type of event was. They were all going about their business and there were guests just standing around wondering what the emergency was, if it was a false alarm or there was actually an issue. I made a trip to the little ice cream shop to buy water that wasn’t $7 per bottle. It was late afternoon so most of the pastries, etc were low in stock. I wouldn’t have purchased them anyway as they were very overpriced. I waited a good 5-7 minutes because no one was there to check me out. It was totally unattended. Chateau seems to be trying to nickel and dime their patrons to death at this point and it is not luxury or upscale enough to justify the room rate plus the resort fee plus the parking fee plus the $7 water. When we went to check out and they printed my bill it showed that the early check in had been raised to $60. I told the representative that we had been told $50 and expressed that the fee was disappointing to begin with and that I wasn’t paying more than I had agreed to. She pulled up my record and told me I should not have been charged at all that close to check in and she removed the charge. So at least there was that. We will definitely book elsewhere on our next trip to Branson. All in all we paid around $360 per night and it just wasn’t worth it. I’d advise folks to familiarize themselves with the extra charges before booking

Pros…Kelly was incredibly friendly and helpful! Amazing view from our balcony. Pool was actually warm! Huge plus for my kids. The bed and pillows were so comfy I didn’t want to go home to my bed. Fireworks on Sunday night were the highlight for my kids! Now for the cons…our room hadn’t been cleaned. Shower was dirty, hair in it. My parents fridge had food in it. Black mold or mildew on the bathroom walls. Carpets were dirty. I know it’s an old building but for the price I think a little more attention to cleaning could be done, especially the mold/mildew!

The room smelled like wet carpet that wasn't dried properly...you know that smell of clothes that stayed in the washer too long. The switch for light fell out and we couldn't turn the light on and off in the bathroom. The front desk person was rude when I asked why he needed to escort me to my room because I needed to get a room key but didn't have my ID....he could have just explained it. Then he BANGED on the door and YELLED...HOTEL MANAGEMENT!!!! So weird. A can of Truly was $10 and drinks were way overpriced at the bar. The food we got for our business meeting was way overpriced and not that good.

!!!!WARNING - DO NOT BOOK!!!!! Notice how many bad reviews the past few months. This place is on the downhill slide..... Service was the worst I ever experienced in travel to 56 different countries and all 50 states. Place was run down. Hotel is about as far as you can get from the attractions in Branson. They charge for everything including a resort fee when everything is closed and parking is 10 bucks even though this place is in the middle of nowhere. Ordered room service using their QR Code. After 40 minutes, I called the kitchen number on the phone but no answer. I called the front desk and they said they were not doing room service. Then we went down to the restaurant and was told they WERE doing room service but that it would be another hour before it was delivered. Decided on Buffet, but was told it would be a long wait even though there were plenty of open tables. Found out that it is because they CHARGE FOR DRINKS at a buffet, so need waiters for all the tables. Every other hotel has juice and coffee and water out on the buffet. But here they need to charge you $10 bucks a drink after tax and tip and need a waitress that you then have to give that tip after they belatedly deliver your drink after you finished your food. In most of the areas, the staff did not know how to do their jobs. Got a coffee at the coffee shop, or tried to do so three times. First time, after waiting in line for 40 minutes, they did not know how to make a coffee drink that was advertised. The other time I gave up after 45 minutes, as they didn't know what they were doing and it was taking 10 minutes a customer. I saw the same lady being shown how to make the same drink several days in a row and they were not able to remember. The guy doing the training barely knew how to do it himself. The third time I did get a drink, but she forgot to put the flavoring into the cup. Ordered the surf and turf dinner from the grill and it took 45 minutes to arrive. When the $90 dish did arrive, the steak was just warm, the shrimp cold, and the potatoes lukewarm. Most of the pool area is under construction. The outside hot tub was closed. One of the elevators was out of order, so it took you 10 minutes to go up or down, with cars arriving full. Avoid this place at all costs. We were there for a conference and because it is far away from the town we could not just move someplace else. DON'T EVEN THINK OF BRINGING LEFTOVERS BACK BECAUSE THERE IS NO MICROWAVE IN THE ROOM!!!! You can "rent" one for $20 of course. What a fraud. This place is a nightmare. I had better service in SOVIET MOSCOW just before the fall of the Soviet Union! DO NOT BOOK!!!!!
