"Nice, But Not Convenient"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5

We came as part of a "Try And Buy" sampler package. We did not purchase. Here's why... First, as far as the"fit and finish" of the resort is concerned, it is excellent. Our 1 BR was very spacious. The view was not spectacular, despite being told it was "the best room at the resort" (I'm sure that's the standard sales line). Considering the construction and the fire a few years ago, we were not expecting a million dollar view. The rocking chairs on the patio were a nice touch, though. The water park is clean, but small. The web page bills is as "the largest indoor water park in the South". Not even close. The ideal ages for the water park are around 2 to 12 years. My 17 year old found the slides boring. Also on the web page but not actually at the resort are the zip line, on-property hiking trails, and 4 outdoor pools (there are 3 outdoor pools and a 4th is planned). We visited the Mountain Top pool on several occasions and it was always crowded and full of kids. The 9 hole mini golf course is clean and free. The maintenance, housekeeping, and activities staff is very friendly. Concierge, not so much. At check in we were told our Personal Concierge would take us to our room if we would wait "5 or 10 minutes". After 50 minutes, we finally saw our concierge who said he was fixing a problem for another family and would be with us in another 15 or 20 minutes. He finally agreed to "map us up" (give us a map to our room) instead. The next day we had a question about an activity and stopped at the Concierge Desk for help. There was no one there, and the front desk crew did not know the answer, but they instead sent us to the Activities Office, and they were very friendly and helpful, telling us what items were ACTUALLY on the property. By the way, DON'T do the Escape Room. It's a lights-off activity and the flashlights they provide are too weak to find the clues you need to solve the puzzles. As far as the location is concerned, it is secluded away from the hustle and hustle of the area, but that also means that nothing is very convenient. By the time you drive down the windy mountain road at the resort and to the highway, you are a minimum of 30 minutes away from any shopping or activity. And considering that they were trying to get us to buy into the property, we had some unexpected issues with dirty sheets and lots of Potato Bugs ("Roly Poly") and centipedes in the room - likely due to the nearby construction. (No roaches or bed bugs). So, the resort is clean and generally friendly, but best for families with smaller kids or those who want to spend most of their time on property. We are owners of a cheaper timeshare property and we are much more satisfied with that experience.

"Water park"

Did not stay at the resort; however, the water park was incredibly fun! Everyone was friendly and patient. Also the environment was welcoming! This place does not have a wave pool like I had hoped, but I still had the greatest time enjoying every minute!

"Great location, great getaway!"

We had a wonderful time at the Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort. The location is great. The staff is super friendly, they must be trained to wave at every quest when they pass in their golf carts. We only used the shuttle a couple times but it was very convenient. We were there the week before Memorial day and I will say toward the end of the week the crowds and traffic were insane! We were glad we picked the week we did! We did not use the trolley system but I could see the value in high season. We loved the mountain top pool and fire pit. The views are outstanding. We had our first bear sighting on the resort but it was not a frightening situation. I was concerned when I read earlier reviews but we had no issues. The rooms were lovely, clean, and we had no issue with appliances. If anything, I was disappointed we didn't have a private balcony but truly we would have just used it in the morning when drinking coffee. We had plenty of common outdoor space to relax. Our unit was more than sufficient for the two of us with a large bathroom, shower, in unit laundry, separate bedroom, fully equipped kitchen and dining/living area with fireplace. I would definitely recommend! For those concerned about the time share push...at check in we said we were not interested and were not bothered the rest of the week.

"Would definitely go again!"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5

I was seriously worried about staying here after reading the reviews; I even had backup places in mind. But, it was really nice! I would not hesitate to stay again as well as I would reccomend it to friends. Not why so many complaints on the following: 1. parking--plenty of it 2. Push for timeshare presentation--a little annoying when you first check in, but the man took the hint very fast that I was not going to be signing up and let it go. 3. Waterpark is for kids--well it has to be for someone. If I had kids with me that were under 10, they would have loved it. It was clean, uncrowded and looked like lots of fun for their age. 4. Staff is rude--Not in the least, in fact they were extremely pleasant and friendly. Very responsive when you text for anything. 5. They don't tell you about the Gatlinburg Trolley--They told me about it on a couple occasions without being prompted. Best parts: -Views are breathtaking, especially the higher you go -Staff is nice and responsive -Villas are very roomy, including with very large bathroom -Waterpark, pools and mini golf are very nice -Location of property is perfect -Everything clean and well maintained -Can park in town for free at other Westgate property Need improvement -One bedrooms are really dark; only one window in the whole unit in the bedroom, not even one in living room. And, that one window faces out to exterior hallway so you can't open curtains without people seeing in. Had to have all the lights on even in the day. Not sure how that can be improved...but this is why I could not give five stars. -Check in took forever. Put more staff on and figure out how to shorten the process so each person isn't checking in for 20 minutes. -A few more activities would have been nice; but loved the trivia. Maybe bring a moonshine tasting to the property -Don't have the staff drag you over to timeshare area as soon as done with check-in. Let people see the property a bit. Have some events (food, wine, prizes) that entice people to lobby or presentation center where you can hit on them then.

"Scam"

They upgraded us to a larger room without us, knowing it, which was nice. Unfortunately, it was downstairs, which caused it to be dark and felt like being in a basement. Although the resort is nice, we went to the preview center for a presentation on the resort. We had to put a deposit of $40 down that we were told we would receive back. We did not receive our deposit back. I’ve been calling and calling and trying to talk to someone about this and have got nowhere with it and was even hung up on by a manager. This is fraud to take money with the agreement it would be returned and then not return it. Do not agree to go to a presentation. Do not give them your money. You will not get it back.
