Begin your adventure with a scenic drive over the stark and beautiful saddle road before a quick stop at the Maunakea Recreation Area for snacks, a stretch and to set the stage for the day overlooking mesmerizing views. From there you will head straight to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Discover all the “must see” spots within the Park including the dramatically changed Halemaumau Crater. After immersing yourself into the magnanimous history and culture of Volcanoes National Park, you will make your way to Kau Coffee Mills.

Here, you can enjoy farm fresh coffee along with other Hawaiian Island grown treats like macadamia nuts, honey, and chocolate. Finally, venture down to the crystal-fine black sand beach of Punaluu where you will search for basking sea turtles.

  • On this in-depth park experience, your interpretive guide will illuminate the historic events that recently changed the landscape of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park forever.

  • Enjoy 2-3 miles of hiking around the park's most dynamic terrain.

  • Drive off-road to a private lava tube known for its bright yellow and gold microbial mats living on and accenting the cave walls. This lava tube is only accessible to Hawaii Forest & Trail guests.

  • Enjoy late afternoon pupu (appetizers) on the farm surrounding our exclusive lava tube.

Schedule: Tours depart daily from our Hawaii Forest & Trail Headquarters, Queen's Marketplace, and select resorts. Tour duration: 11.5

Rated: Easy to moderate; hiking of 2 to 3 miles in dynamic terrain

Included in the tour: Breakfast snacks, beverages, lunch, afternoon appetizers, National Park entrance fees, water, walking sticks, flashlights, day-packs, warm wear, helmets, and rain ponchos.

Lunch: Includes sandwich choice of turkey, ham, roast beef or veggie, chips, cookie, filtered water re-fills, sparkling water and juice drinks.
Dinner: Beef stew or Vegan Chili (gluten free) served with a butter foll, dessert, and hot tea and hot chocolate.

Group Size: Tour limited to 14.

Restrictions: Guests should be able to hike on uneven or rocky terrain. We sometimes encounter cool, wet or muddy conditions. Ages 8+.

How much hiking do we do?  
You’ll hike for approximately 2-3 miles at a location determined by park conditions that day.

Will we get to see active lava? 
Although there are currently no active eruptions in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and on Kilauea Volcano, active lava viewing conditions change daily or even hourly. Therefore, lava sightings cannot be guaranteed.

How long is the tour?
The entire round trip tour is approximately 12 hours long.

Is hotel transportation included?
Yes. Please see the instructions on your tickets for arranging transportation.

What should I wear and bring?
