Description

Take a southwestern adventure aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad. This four-hour scenic ride takes passengers through the Arizona backcountry, only accessible from the comfort of this train. This legendary “boutique” attraction offers an uncommon view of a wildly wonderful red-rock canyon.

This is the only excursion train in the Southwest where every guest enjoys two seats for the price of one: inside viewing through large panoramic windows and 360-degree views from adjacent open-air viewing cars. Lunch is available at the Copper Spike Café, and shopping is available at the Boxcar Gift Shop and John Bell Train Museum, and there are educational storyboards throughout the property.

Spacious living room-style seating near panoramic windows highlights this scenic excursion. Individually packaged, freshly made snacks of meats, cheeses, fruits, and popular brownie bites are served at your seats. Full bar service is available in every car. Bottled water is provided at boarding. All seating cars connect to open-air viewing platforms. "Private" seating is not guaranteed, as our seating is configured in an even number of two or four. Facing couches accommodate four people, while two chairs and a table accommodate pairs. To accommodate the high volume of reservation requests, there will be times when non-associated parties will be seated across from another party.

"Poor Train Maintenance Resulted in Last-Minute Cancellation and No Refund."

This was meant to be a highlight the trip to Arizona I took with my friends, and turned out to be the biggest letdown. We reserved seats ahead of time, boarded the train, and never got to depart. This was meant to occur on May 4th, 2025 at 1:00pm. We flew all the way from Iowa to visit Arizona, see the Grand Canyon, ride this train and do a number of other interesting activities. 1. We were sitting on the train for about 45 minutes past the scheduled departure time while the crew dealt with engine problems, and were forced to move to the open-air car to wait, because electrical issues resulted in the indoor car being very warm. 2. The assistant then announced that they had to cancel the ride because old components of the train were malfunctioning and we couldn't leave. Everyone was disappointed. 3. Assured we would be fully refunded, not one of our three tickets was reimbursed. One of my friends paid for them all (which we paid him for), and informed us no such refund appeared on his bank statement. After calling the railroad about three or four times over the next several weeks and months, I was told they "did process it" and to "contact his bank", then I was told the information would be sent to their people who deal with payment processing and I'd receive an email back in a few days, which never came, and I never heard from anyone again. $434 down the tubes that we basically spent on three snack trays.
