River Hotel Chicago, Downtown

Staff was excellent and friendly. Also very helpful. Loved how clean the room was. I felt really comfortable sleeping in the bed. I was very disappointed with the room I was assigned to. The only view I saw was the back of the buildings surrounding us and somehow there was a half window there, I had to climb on the windowsill to actually see there was no view.

I got this as an unknown hotel on a booking site. It was supposedly a 4 or 4.5 star hotel. Despite the name, this is a Club Quarters hotel. For those of you who don't know the brand, QC is as close to a motel as a hotel can get. You check yourself in/out, rooms are small and dated, there's no room service or even housekeeping unless you request it, toiletries are cheap, etc. While it seems all these booking sites do grade inflation with their hotel rankings, this is, at best, a two and 1/2 star hotel.

expensive, lots of hidden charges, incredibly small room, scrapes on walls, stairs almost to the point of hazardous with unclear signs, breakfast is a paid upgrade. the only good part was the staff but even they sound specifically coached.

It doesn’t make sense that I can’t connect my phone to that big tv, the casting option doesn’t work and there isn’t any other option to watch Netflix or whatever you use on that TV.

I was a little surprised that the valet prices went up from fifty a night to seventy five a night without any advance notice. My room was quite warm and I could not cool it off, but at least they provided me a fan. So I appreciated that. All in all, I was happy. I usually am, and that is why we have returned a dozen times.
