Great 1 night stay at Hotel La Jolla. Ruth at the Front desk was exceptional wirh her knowledge and kind assistance. The hotel is a 5 minute easy walk to Avenida de La Playa- so walking to dinner at Piatti's was very easy. Beach is just another 2-3 blocks more from Piattis. Lovely, spacious rooms.

"5 Star Service at the Hotel La Jolla"
TripAdvisor user rating 5.0 out of 5

We stayed at the Hotel La Jolla during the recent UCSD graduation, as the hotel is very well situated to campus. There was only one working elevator at our arrival due to renovations (hotel signage reframed this limitation as a “wellness journey” for guests to get exercise by taking the stairs), but when we returned from the ceremony around 10 that night, the other elevator was non-operational as well. Our party of five, including two octogenarians, had to climb 10 flights of stairs. Luckily, the elevator was fixed the next morning. There were other mechanical and service failures as well. When we tried to leave the hotel, the parking gate wouldn’t raise, and there was no response to the call button. Later, I noticed that it had just been left in the up position. Furthermore, I had texted the hotel while at the ceremony to have the sofa bed made up, and the front staff assured me that housekeeping had made up the bed. Nevertheless, upon our arrival to the room, only the fitted sheet had been placed on the bed along with the flat sheet, with no blanket or comforter. So why am I giving the hotel the highest rating? General manager Stormi Posch sent an initial e-mail at 5 in the morning on Sunday to apologize for the elevator and was consistently available by e-mail for the remainder of our stay and afterwards. She was more than reasonable in providing a generous response to the multiple issues that we faced, and he goodwill she engendered was amplified by her warm and caring demeanor. We paid an upgrade fee for a suite, which afforded unparalleled ocean views. The hotel’s restaurant, Sea & Sky, provided an excellent breakfast. We are Hilton Diamond members and used points, so we received $60 per room per day for food and beverage ($30 included in the destination fee, waived for award stays, in addition to the $30 Diamond benefit), which covered breakfast. I’m sure that we’ll return.

""Your wellness journey starts here", by having to climb many stairs"

Full disclosure - I am writing this review after having escalated my complaints to the Hilton executive office. We received a refund of approximately one nights stay to compensate us for our inconvenience, which I will detail below. On to the review... First the positive - we stayed in a suite which had clearly been very recently and nicely renovated. One of the nicest Hiltons I've stayed at. Comfortable bed, updated furnishing and decor. As another reviewer mentioned, it is a pleasant walk through a cute neighborhood to the ocean and "boardwalk" area. One reviewer here strangely wrote about the benefits at the hotel of being a Hilton Hhonors Diamond member. I have no idea what they might be talking about, as I too am a Diamond member and don't recall anything special as a result. Now, on to the main concern - the elevators. I wish I'd checked the TripAdvisor reviews in advance, which made it clear that the hotel has been having elevator issues since the summer of 2024. As of our stay in May 2025, both elevators were out of operation for days. The repairs only got "escalated" when I raised the issue to the Hilton executive office. And then, only one of the two elevators got put back into service. After our stay, I insisted on an adjustment to our bill, and following more correspondence with the Hilton executive office, we were offered a credit of one night's stay. More recent reviews here in TripAdvisor suggest that the elevator problem may be ongoing. I would advise calling the hotel and getting assurance of elevator service before booking. For your entertainment, I am attaching a photo of the beautifully printed poster trying to promote the lack of elevator service as a way to "Elevate your stay. Your Wellness Journey Starts Here", advising you to climb the stairs to your room (this is a 10 story hotel). The utter hubris of this sign is stunning. I've never seen anything at all like this in my extensive travels. In summary - at least our room was very nice, and the location is convenient. But I would not stay here again without an ironclad guarantee that both elevators are working.
