"A Pleasant Experience"

My son, daughter, and I reserved a 3 night stay directly through Grand Hotel's website because it had a great deal for Florida residents. Not only was the price a good deal, but the other main reason I booked this hotel was because it has a shuttle to Universal Orlando. We checked in on Saturday, December 13th. The receptionist was very pleasant and informative. Please note that there is an amenity fee per night. I knew that ahead of time. The elevator was a little hard to find, but the receptionist directed us into the right direction. We then went to our room, which had two queen beds. The room was clean and worth every penny. We had plenty of towels, toilet paper, and soap. The pillows were thicker than typical hotel pillows, which I loved. There was a mini fridge, but no microwave. The AC worked well for us. The beds were very comfortable, making it easy to fall asleep. The next morning, we made sure to get ready in time to have breakfast before the shuttle arrived. Breakfast is available 7am - 10am. And the shuttle to Universal comes at 8:35am and 10:35am. For breakfast, there was Froot Loops, mini pancakes, scrambled egg patties, sausage patties, mini muffins, bread, milk, coffee, orange juice, and apple juice. There was plenty available. There was a problem with the juice machine. When i informed the receptionist, she took care of it right away. After we ate, we caught the 8:35 shuttle, which was right on time. The shuttle stopped at 3 other hotels before dropping us all off at Universal. The only return shuttle was available at 6pm. After a wonderful day at the park, we took the shuttle back to the hotel. The driver of the shuttle was a very good driver and was courteous and patient. When we got back to our room, the beds were made, the trash was removed, and we received fresh towels. I was pleasantly surprised because a lot of hotels don't clean rooms everyday anymore. We walked a block to a local restaurant for dinner. There were many restaurants within walking distance. We repeated our day for the next two days. We checked out on Tuesday, December 16th. Lorna graciously gave me a summary of the charges when I requested it.she asked me about our stay, and I told her of our pleasant experience. She appreciated the compliment on behalf of the hotel. I know there are a lot of bad reviews of this hotel, but i took a chance and I'm glad I did. I didn't experience any of the problems that some of the other reviewers had. I took into consideration that customers are quick to leave a negative review, but rarely leave positive reviews. My only complaint was with a gentleman named Frank who was at the time-share counter across from the front desk. He demanded that I come to his counter after I was done checking in, and when I asked what this was about, he told me not to worry about it. He just wanted my information on a form. And when he found out that I don't make enough money, he just sent me on my way. As rude as he was, I don't hold it against the hotel because he works for the time-share company. Other than that, I highly recommend The Grand Hotel Orlando. I will be staying there again.

I knew I made a mistake on this Express deal as soon as I checked in. The surprise daily resort fee of $16 and the surprise daily parking fee $15. When I asked about the resort fee, I was told it was for Wi-Fi, pool and gym. I told the front desk Clark that I would not be using any of those, but was forced to pay the mandatory charge regardless. Unfortunately, it got worse when I checked into the room with the bathroom sink that did not drain properly and a bathtub with a broken tub spout. I had to twist it back on. Drugs were old, Curtains on the window were loose and the room had a moldy smell. The hotel and room furnishings were dated and not reflective of the pictures on their website. Looks like the hotel has not been upgraded in about 20 years. I later found out this was a Baymont hotel and anyone who has stayed at that hotel chain knows how bad it can be. Beds mattresses and pillows were uncomfortable. Refrigerator area with sticky and dirty looking. I contacted Priceline to ask them to explain why they were resort fees and parking fees that would not indicated on their website, but they would not do anything to compensate me. Beware if you are choosing an Express hotel deal that you might get stuck at this location.

"Amazing"

The hotel itself is amazing—super clean (ignored the bad rumors about bugs, we saw none!) and close to SeaWorld. Staff was good. My only major complaint is the pricing transparency. I was quoted $45 due at check-in but was forced to pay $114. Just be prepared for that sticker shock when you arrive.
