"Amazing Proposal Spot!"

I was looking for the perfect spot to propose to my girlfriend but had little luck. A friend suggested to try the Catamaran and put me in contact with Assistant F&B Director Christian Pichardo. Within a matter of minutes he had devised the perfect plan. Our night began with an amazing Chef’s Table experience by the water. It was an incredible experience as my future fiancée and I tried each of the five courses paired with cocktails. We don’t drink alcohol and we had hoped to just drink water, but they actually crafted mocktails just for us! As we had our dinner, Mr. Pichardo met with my vendor to set up the proposal on the opposite end of where our dinner was. The General Manager, Jayne Aston also stopped by to say hello during our dinner. This was a nice touch. Executive Chef Bryan Stuppy did a fabulous job explaining the courses as did the beverage manager explaining the cocktails. Mr. Pichardo and his team met with me the day before the proposal and helped me fine tune the details and to plan the perfect proposal. As our dinner came to a close he offered me a personal tour of the event space as he knew that was my background. He led my girlfriend and I to the top of the stairs of one of their ballrooms and left us there so that I could walk down the stairs with my girlfriend. As we walked down the stairs we walked into huge “Marry Me” letters and a candles set by the hotel along with rose petals leading the path to my proposal spot. I got on one knee as our song played in the hotels sound system and after my fiancée said yes, we were met by none other than Mr. Pichardo himself and two glasses of champagne to celebrate our moment. I couldn’t have planned this moment any better. The Food and Beverage staff at the Catamaran led by Mr. Pichardo outside themselves and allowed my fiancée and I to have the proposal of our dreams. I could not have done this without their support. This place is amazing! Every step was magical and was an amazing display of customer service. I have no words to express my gratitude. But this place embodies customer service and guest satisfaction like I’ve hardly ever experienced before. This will forever be a special place in our hearts.

The resort in a word is awesome. It's in a great location, close to the beach, near many restaurants, the bay and Sea World. It's very clean, spacious and inviting. I always enjoy my stays at this resort. Joanne at the front desk and Renee in reservations were exceptional. Having travelled on business for over 35 years, she exceeded my expectations. They were very informative, knowledgeable, great communicators and listeners. They are a true assets to the Catamaran team!

"For One Time it Was OK"
TripAdvisor user rating 3.0 out of 5
Reviewed September 25, 2025
The grounds, lobby, and pool are very nice. The room was large and nicely decorated, nice view, beds comfortable, so I gave it 3 stars for that. However, no housekeeping ever came, everything you touched in the room was sticky. I got into the shower and discovered only then after getting wet that the soap and shampoo pumps did NOT work! My husband got them to work but it took awhile. The sink is a pedestal style so you have to keep your toiletries outside the door on the vanity. There is no place to hang wet bathing suits and very little towel hanging bars. We didn't use the safe, but I discovered that it was locked anyhow had we wanted to use it. In other hotels the safe is always open for your use. The balcony door was flimsy and hard to open. The hotel is pricey for not getting any housekeeping or even restocking of clean towels etc. I don't like wasting vacation time having to call someone and sitting and waiting for them to bring supplies to the room. The parking garage only had stairs, no elevator. Next time we will explore other options.

"Noisy air conditioning in rooms"

The rooms are good except that they have those wall units for air conditioning. I was in San Diego during a humid spell, so had to run the air con. It kept me up all night with the roaring fan, even though I set it to low. Other than that, the hotel is in a good location near the beach with pleasant outdoor gardens and restaurant seating. The Hawaiian theme is fun and not as kitschy as one might have expected.
