Tip: Seven pool areas, included an area for adults only. Farmer's market, escape rooms, game areas, couple of hours for child care. My grandchildren never once said they were "bored." There are shuttled excursions to LA, San Diego, local casino, and if you like grilling, fishing, golfing, live theater this is the place to visit. Also, the two bedroom Villa was clean, 3 tv's ( we were so busy - did not watch the rented movies). Full kitchen, excellent view from balcony. Nothing negative to report about this trip.

"Awful resort for families"
July 2018
We go ever year to San Diego and have an awesome family vacation. We stayed at legoland resort 3 times, stayed at holiday inn, and stayed other hotels at the hotel circle in San Diego and have had the best housekeeping and room service and there was always something beside the pool for the kids to do. So we thought since we always spend over 3k to try something different and stay at the welks resort since they photos showed all kind of things for families with kids to participate in. We had the worst time at the Welks Redort, will never go back and will never recommend it to anyone. First I’m handicap and the parking was awful, 8 villas and only about 12 parking spaces where in front of our villas and 90% of the times if we got there after 2pm we had to park far away from our Villa and park in the parking of another Villa’s court and walk with all 3 girls ages 8 and under, second no room service and no housekeeping, after paying over 3k we had to take our trash out ourselves and change our own bedsheets (it wasn’t a vacation it was like just being home) Third no good deliveries were allowed other then Pizza Hut , so your force to eat pizza or drive over 30 to 45 minutes to buy something to take back to your Villa and fight for parking so then you can sit and eat and relax, sorry but this place is for (hate to say it) old retired folks without kids that just
Want to stay in their villas and drink all day and night like both our neighbors. Our kids were so bored they couldn’t wait to go home and asked if next year we please not come back and stay at Legoland. You should have assigned parking, room service and housekeeping for everyone not only if you stay 5 nights (we stayed 4 nights) and you be allowed to have food delivered to your room and have activities for the kids. You are not cheap so why act like a cheap hotel and not make it easy for your guest to enjoy their stay.

"This resort doesn’t care about guests, especially those with special needs"

It started out as an awesome trip. Pools galore. Sunshine. Comfortable accommodations. But all of that was brought to the screeching halt on our second day when the pool attendant stopped us from feeding our 18-month-old cheese sticks. You see we are strict vegetarians. Additionally, my son has several food sensitivities. This resort offers little more than deep fat fried high calorie loaded with sugar garbage at the pool shack. For that reason, I packed him a few organic, vegetarian cheese sticks so he could eat while he played like every other child at this pool. For me, I walked to the on-site market and spend $60 on snacks and drinks. So, before you think this was a matter of being cheap - it wasn’t. It’s a matter of keeping my son fed and healthy and not dead due to cross contamination of allergens. The managers and security suggested that instead of letting him eat the 3, 1-inch long cheese sticks poolside (so we could avoid purchasing the junk they offer that could send him into anaphylactic shock) that we pack up our things and walk outside every single time he wanted as much as a bite of a cheese stick. So if he wanted a single bite, we needed to go outside so he could eat and not die. How does that make any sense? I get you have an outside food policy. The resort wants to make money. It makes money off of food purchases. But you can’t make exceptions for guests with special needs? Ridiculous! What I learned from this encounter is that this property and its staff do not care about guests, especially guests who follow religious or allergy diets. (Also, I work in children’s health advocacy which includes disability inclusion and noticed their lack of accessibility for people with disabilities. Yes, they do the bare minimum, but nothing more). We honestly talked about getting a time share. We live in LA and would love to drive down more often. I also noticed they have locations in Brandon and abroad. We travel a ton and have family in Missouri. This could have been our go-to. But after this incident, not only will we not be getting that time share, we won’t be back to any Welk Resort. I would encourage anyone with dietary restrictions, food allergies or basic empathy for children with special needs to avoid coming here. The lack of caring and empathy on the part of guest services is astounding. I’m disgusted and flabbergasted at the way we were treated (meanwhile ima literally sitting next a family eating outside food - maybe this is just a case of #TravelingWhileBlack). Included is a picture of the cheese sticks. Maybe this resort can get a few on order so children like my son have something to eat while on premises. Or maybe they could learn to have basic human compassion for children who are different.

Upon our arrival we saw cereal on the end table, broken glass on the balcony, a dead tree out in the yard all week and trash on the lawn for 4 days. It's such a nice beautiful resort, but it's a shame the maintenance and cleanliness is not taken seriously. Especially staring this pandemic of covid-19!! Staff was very helpful and nice too.

The check in process/lobby was well marked to remind people of current distancing guidelines and masks. All of the guests wore masks. The check in counters all had the same plexiglass shields you may have seen in other businesses by now. Basically, the check in process was smooth, professional, and safe, and that was much appreciated. There are 5 pools at this location; two of them are 1st come 1st serve, and the other three accept reservations, which are easy enough to get in, especially if you are focused on the 18+ pool (it may be more difficult/crowded at the kid/family friendly pools). At the 18+ pool, people were all good about maintaining distance, both in and out of the pool. Basically, the pool was super chill and we went there every day with no issue. The room itself was possibly the cleanest room I've ever checked into. Our whole plan was just to get out, chill at the pool, and relax, and the Welks was honestly a great space for that. They have a market on site, and it's small but good if you need some small items/snacks, but it's not a bad drive into Escondido for groceries or take-out (there are some other food options on the resort in addition to the market). We will definitely keep them in mind for future trips, although we do not have interest in any of the time-share stuff (they were courteous in pitching that aspect but we just weren't interested).
