"Great vacation for the entire family."

This trip and location was amazing. Plenty activities for all ages. Excellent service from entering the resort and check out.

Tip: Seven pool areas, included an area for adults only. Farmer's market, escape rooms, game areas, couple of hours for child care. My grandchildren never once said they were "bored." There are shuttled excursions to LA, San Diego, local casino, and if you like grilling, fishing, golfing, live theater this is the place to visit. Also, the two bedroom Villa was clean, 3 tv's ( we were so busy - did not watch the rented movies). Full kitchen, excellent view from balcony. Nothing negative to report about this trip.

"Awful resort for families"
July 2018
We go ever year to San Diego and have an awesome family vacation. We stayed at legoland resort 3 times, stayed at holiday inn, and stayed other hotels at the hotel circle in San Diego and have had the best housekeeping and room service and there was always something beside the pool for the kids to do. So we thought since we always spend over 3k to try something different and stay at the welks resort since they photos showed all kind of things for families with kids to participate in. We had the worst time at the Welks Redort, will never go back and will never recommend it to anyone. First I’m handicap and the parking was awful, 8 villas and only about 12 parking spaces where in front of our villas and 90% of the times if we got there after 2pm we had to park far away from our Villa and park in the parking of another Villa’s court and walk with all 3 girls ages 8 and under, second no room service and no housekeeping, after paying over 3k we had to take our trash out ourselves and change our own bedsheets (it wasn’t a vacation it was like just being home) Third no good deliveries were allowed other then Pizza Hut , so your force to eat pizza or drive over 30 to 45 minutes to buy something to take back to your Villa and fight for parking so then you can sit and eat and relax, sorry but this place is for (hate to say it) old retired folks without kids that just
Want to stay in their villas and drink all day and night like both our neighbors. Our kids were so bored they couldn’t wait to go home and asked if next year we please not come back and stay at Legoland. You should have assigned parking, room service and housekeeping for everyone not only if you stay 5 nights (we stayed 4 nights) and you be allowed to have food delivered to your room and have activities for the kids. You are not cheap so why act like a cheap hotel and not make it easy for your guest to enjoy their stay.

Tip: Housekeeping and room service for all guest, alllow food service to be delivered, assign parking, activities for young kids.

"Covid Vacation"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

Needed to get out of the house safely. Welks resort was beautiful. They have implemented safety measures. There are limits on the pools. For some of these you need to place a reservation ahead of time for 2 hour increments. Other activites were changed to single families to keep safe. Our favorite was the sunset electric bike cruise. We also enjoyed axe throwing and the escape room. We only went in the pool once because even with restrictions, we felt there were too many people. Restaurant on site was closed, but opened the day before we left.

"Great place to visit but avoid during Covid"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

We normally love visiting here. Unfortunately with Covid-19, they try to keep things open but don't tell you until the last minute about all the restrictions and what is not available. They have great recreation centers and pools but you have to make a reservation for the pools. Unfortunately the reservations go fast so you have to take your chance at the waiting list or showing up 30-45 minutes into the 2 1/2 hour reservation time slots. Also very inconstant knowledge of people working there. Some don't know what's going on or who to call to find out. They also only one of the recreation centers is open for crafts but again, it's reservation only, severely limiting what you can do. While they are practicing good social distancing with this, the other 3 rec centers are closed. Doesn't make sense. Again, they don't warn you about this so you get blind sided when you get there so beware. The golf course is in great shape so if your coming as a couple and don't care about the pools or rec centers, it's wonderful!

"Sorrento Unit #376"
TripAdvisor user rating 2 out of 5
Reviewed June 29, 2020 NEW
Seemed that they were not expecting for unit to be occupied because it was missing paper towel, toilet paper and facial tissue. Really wanted to use the paper towels to sanitize the room, especially during the COVID pandemic . Also had bug bites in our arms and legs. Wonder when was the last time unit was cleaned, linens changed. My family was looking forward to this trip and it did not live to our expectations.

"Management handling"
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5
Reviewed June 29, 2020 NEW
I rarely take out the time to write a bad review, but this one was definitely coming from the minute we walked in for check in. We showed up On time for check in and find a long line ( at least over a dozen people) on their lobby, I kept all my children in the car with husband ( due to social distancing) and assumed ok theres 3 people on front desk it should go fast. But nope, it was at least 30 mins to get through the line, they finally had one of their managers come out to help speed up the process, but there were clearly enough people sitting around doing nothing on their resort information section. When we got our turn, the lady on front desk Check us in and didn't mention anything about our package deal that we booked through their own websites that was to include breakfast and late check out, she finished explaining where we go to drive our car. I asked her how do we avail of the breakfast that we paid for, she looked confused. And I told her that I upgraded my booking to one of this “sweet escape” package they were offering. She then proceeds to tell me that their restaurants are close and that isn’t possible. Mind you we only had this booking a few days prior so things didn’t just change last minute. I actually didn’t bring any food items to cook because I assumed we will get breakfast, there’s no supermarkets close by in this resort. I asked to speak to manager and his only resolution is to give me a Restaurant credit to what I paid for two days worth of breakfast but says the only place we can use it for is Pizza Hut! What am I buying $100 worth of pizza for? I asked them to just refund me the up charge for the package and they couldn’t figure out how much I paid for it? No one can tell me how much they will charge for the room rates and by this time we’ve been standing there for an extra half hour ( one hour since I got there) I had to have my husband come in with the children because they have been waiting in car for an hour! They told us to call customer service for the issue, so manager can not handle it right then and there? We were so exhausted that I just told them I don’t want to deal with it on my time of my vacation ( it was my birthday too!). They told us someone will contact us in 24 hours, I really didn’t want to be stuck on the phone like my husband was on for 40 mins with no resolution. Told the manager to deal with it in time for our check out, Two days later upon check out, we had to again wait another 30 mins because no one bothered to do it. Manager appeared to be too busy for us! The customer service is appalling! They couldn’t even offer us our extended check out that we originally paid for unless we take the gift resort credit option! The room was nice, but too much driving or walking to get to pools and the room we got looked like we were gonna get mugged on our way in, it was on the bottom floor, stairwell access was unattractive to say the least. Not coming back to this place again!

"Amazing but...."
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5
Reviewed June 24, 2020 NEW
Overall, I want to thank the amazing and incredible staff. There were many checking in but it was a Saturday and overall, the staff did their best to check in everyone rather quickly. The Good: Again, can’t say enough of the staff. Very polite, friendly and welcoming! The unit itself was clean and the kitchen was stocked all needed kitchen ware. The balcony was small but the views were amazing. Very peaceful and serene. Not so good: I won’t blame the resort for this. I wanted to upgrade once I checked in but because the rooms were already pre-assigned they told me it wasn’t possible. I should have called ahead, now I know. Then, we were told all the pools were booked, again, I don’t blame the resort, they were following safety protocols. The kitchen was great but had stools rather than chairs which were not good because I suffer from lower back problems. What was a real disappointment was the restroom in our suite. I can’t believe no one else has posted anything about that. Our unit was at the Spyglass, 2nd floor, and our restroom was just odd. I’ve never been to jail but the restroom made me feel like I was using a prison bathroom. I’ve never been anywhere we’re there is no shower door and the toilet sits so close to the shower. Overall, I loved the place. Already looking to book in a few weeks but I will book a nicer room, likely a villa over a suite.
