"Not a W but an L Hotel"

We decided to do a long weekend in NYC and specifically sought to stay at the W near Times Square. We did this because of our great experience last year at a W hotel in Boston. We quickly realized not all W hotels are the same. Our first evening was filled with hotel misses. To begin with, the heating in the room did not work. Unfortunately this was bad timing because the temperatures fell into the high twenties. Management sent Maintenance and they weren’t able to fix it. Management’s solution was to provide one space heater. Entirely inadequate to heat our room. Consequently our evening was terrible with both of us waking up several times. The next day, Management ignored the issue until I reached out to them as a follow up. Their solution for me complaining that the one space heater was inadequate was to send a second space heater. After several back and forth, they sent Maintenance. They finally fixed it but left the two space heaters in the room. Finally the temperature was fixed. When we checked in on Friday, we requested a late check in. On Sunday morning, before we went out for breakfast, we went down stairs to make sure our keys were programmed to work on our hotel room. After lunch, we needed to head to the airport and hurried to the room. Our keys did not work. Frustrated, we went down to the lobby to have our keys reprogrammed. We ultimately made that trip two more times before we finally accessed our room. When we got a taxi, it seems that there must be some deal between the doorman and the taxi cabs because the taxi charged me $100 to go to JFK. I know for a fact that it’s a flat feee ($70) plus tools. I speculate that there’s some deal because the doorman talked for some time with the cab driver before they finally waived us over to come. The driver tried telling me that it was city fees and such.

I figured my Marriott status would encourage them to treat me like a valuable customer, I was wrong. They placed me on a low floor. My room was very noisy and was called "city view" however, I was directly behind a bill board. There was ZERO view. Additionally because of the noise I was forced to sleep with earplug, I then didn't wake to my alarm and missed my morning meetings.

This was, without a doubt, the most unprofessional and infuriating experience I have ever encountered in all my years of traveling. The hotel staff fraudulently charged my AMEX card for rooms I never booked. This is blatant credit card fraud. I spoke with over six different customer service representatives—none of whom offered any real assistance or resolution. When I contacted the hotel directly, I was met with even more disrespect. A manager named Steward was especially rude and completely useless in addressing the situation. To make matters worse, while the staff had no problem fraudulently charging my card, they suddenly had every problem when it came to providing proper support or issuing a refund. The hypocrisy is astounding. I will never, under any circumstance, patronize this establishment again. It’s unacceptable that I now have to involve legal representation to recover funds that were stolen from me by this hotel. Avoid this place at all costs.
