"Great Location, Run Down Hotel"

The location is brilliant, staff are friendly. Hotel is very tired and needs a lot of maintenance and cleaning to bring it up to scratch. A good clean and coat of paint would go a long way to improving the overall feel of this hotel. It appears that some improvements are happening but in a very hit and miss way. Our room was half done but in a very amatuerish way. Our prime concern was the electricity, didn't feel safe at all. Noisy at night. Bed was comfortable. Fishermans Wharf is an expensive place to stay, this was a prime example of you get what you pay for. The photos of rooms on their site are very deceptive.

"THE WORST NIGHT EVER IN A HOTELl!"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed November 27, 2025
On 2nd night of a two night stay we found bugs in the bed. At around midnight we sent an email to the hotel informing them of such and that we would spend the night in chairs and not the bed. After a few hours without sleep we decided to pack up and leave. Around 4.15 am we checked out and was asked by the desk to send a picture to management, which we did. We received an apology accompanied with a statement that they had since checked the room and found nothing, could we send more 'evidence'. We sent a few more pictures which clearly show very tiny objects filled with blood (still have the photos). Since then we have been told that is not evidence enough and have we any 'evidence' of being bitten. I wasn't aware that we should have waited for more bites, but it seems that is what is required for them to even consider a refund on the room or even any empathy. They have given a 1 night refund on parking as 'goodwill'. REALLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Thought we was booked to stay at Hotel Riu and got there only to find out the reservation was for the wrong month..and they had no vacancy for that night, so in panic we walked across the street and they were able to get us in.. the room was very clean, and the staff was very nice and they saved us last minute.. I would stay here again! We even had a Great time walking around the pier sight seeing and they held our luggage till our room was ready!

"Basic with nice bedding, but no A/C"

I love the location of this place. It's pretty basic. The bedding is nice, but there is no A/C! This may sound silly in San Francisco, but I'm here, right now in August and it's been warm and sunny outside. So the air inside the room is hot and stuffy. I would stay here again, but not in summer.
