Great hotel and amazing staff, Brian at the front desk was accommodating and knowledgeable. Not only did he tell us exactly what we needed to know about the hotel, he asked questions and directed us to nightlife we were looking for.

The Hollywood Roosevelt is a hotel with an amazing history, a beautiful pool and a lovely, helpful staff! I enjoyed the Byredo shower products and great cocktails in the glamorous old Hollywood era lobby! I spent time speaking to security about the history of the hotel and how the very first Oscars were held in a banquet room at the hotel!

"Beware the afterparty!"

To start with, the good. Reception staff were friendly and helpful, and the look of the hotel lobby, bar and common areas is gorgeous. It really has that old Hollywood 1940s vibe going. The location, directly on Hollywood Boulevard was fantastic to see all the sights of the area. The negative, about a month out from our stay, we were contacted by the hotel to say that the pool wouldn’t be available for the duration of our stay as it was closed for a private event. No big problem for us as we’re not travelling from Australia to LA to hang around the pool! However, what we didn’t realise was the event was an afterparty for an awards show at the Dolby Theatre, so when we returned from a long day out at Universal Studios we initially couldn’t even drop our car at the valet parking, and then once we got to our room there was a lot of noise from the afterparty. We would have appreciated better communication from the hotel management regarding how difficult it would be to get back into the hotel on the night of the afterparty. We did mention this upon checking out, and had the cost of the valet parking removed for one night. The decor within the rooms was also a little tired, and the beds not particularly comfortable. Long story short, great location, unless there is a private event on and you’re trying to get back into the hotel.

I stayed one night at this hotel to be close to the Hollywood Bowl for a show. It's nicely situated, right off Sunset Boulevard, and it manages to resist the seediness of the immediate environment of the tourist area of Hollywood. Rooms are clean, the bed was comfy, and the whole hotel feels quaintly historic. That said, my room was $300 and it was tiny. The bathroom was so small that the door could not be closed while using the toilet. But my biggest issue was the billing. They place a $150 hold for incidentals which, five days later, remains on my credit card. There was a mistaken charge for valet parking for someone else's car on my bill, which was reversed, and then after I checked out, they charged me for a min-bar charge for something I did not take -- I didn't use anything from the mini-bar at all and even brought my own bottled water. When I got home, I requested that the charge be reversed and Stephanie at the front desk said it would be reversed. It still has not been. I don't know if these are honest mistakes on the Hollywood Roosevelt's part or if it's a matter of practice, but either way, it points to a quality issue in their guest relations and should be fixed...especially when rates are so high for such small rooms. I would encourage anyone who stays here to pay close attention to their bill each day you're there, and even days later.
