"Overall it was pretty good!"

The hotel and staff were very accommodating. First thing that lowered the score and maybe they lost it and we didn't see it, but there is no parking provided by the hotel. It is valet only or park across and down the street for $30 a pop. Once we checked in they said they comped up the free valet and two free waters in the room. Oh and they "upgraded" us from a queen to a king size bed (when we booked there was no kings available). . They have a restaurant connected "Grange" and they were open late but the menu was limited to I think four things when we went after the concert. And it was a very foofy menu, but to each their own. I prefer a laid back casual type not fancy lah-diii-dahhhh dining. I'm just not one to put my pinky up! regardless it turned out to be a nice experience. Price was a little high. It expected for a Marriott franchise.

"We booked two of the penthouse suites for our wedding weekend. Big mistake."
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed August 25, 2025 NEW
First and foremost, our wedding weekend brought tens of thousands of dollars in business to the Citizen with guests traveling from both in and out of state. Despite reaching out multiple times to secure group rates, we received no responses or call backs. Ultimately, we booked based solely on convenience and proximity to our venue and cathedral. Unfortunately, convenience and basic rest -- the very reasons we chose the Citizen--were exactly what we did not receive. On the day of rehearsal, my bride spent the afternoon setting up at our venue, only to have to return home to prepare because our room was unavailable. After rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, we had to go home again, pack, and did not fully check in with our luggage until nearly 11:00 PM. Instead of being able to rest and prepare for one of the most important days of our lives, the experience became a stressful logistical nightmare. What made matters worse was the reasoning given for the delay. We were told that "Elite" members were allowed to occupy our reserved room until 4:00 PM (see screenshot) despite the posted 3:00 PM check-in policy and the fact that our booking had been secured months in advance (January). Being notified only the morning of our check-in -- on the eve of our wedding -- was unacceptable. The only option presented was to leave our luggage in the lobby, which given the circumstances, did not feel safe or respectful. Adding to the disappointment, my parents also encountered poor service. Upon check-in, their luggage was loaded onto a cart with the assurance it would be delivered to their room. After waiting 25 minutes, they -- both in their mid-60s and with mobility issues -- were forced to retrieve the cart themselves, as it had been left unattended. This lack of follow-through and consideration for guests with physical limitations is deeply troubling. Overall, what should have been a seamless and celebratory stay was instead marked by stress, disrespect, and inconvenience for myself, my bride, and my family. Considering the significance of the occasion and the amount of business we and our guests brought here, we expected -- at the very least -- professionalism, courtesy, and reliable service.

Very nice historical property with a very nice room and a really good restaurant/bar. Chris K was our server and he was very good. Bar was also an A+. Chef was out standing. Front desk was solid too. Only negative was the City Park across the street that attracted Riff Raff when the Sun went down. Only a couple of blocks away from the Capitol.

"Great for a business trip"
TripAdvisor user rating 5.0 out of 5

I stayed here for 3 nights on business - our company had a conference room in the hotel as well for 2 days. Check in was quick since i had checked in on the app. Couple of water bottles in the room and the internet was fast, Rooms were on the smaller size but my bathroom was huge on the 11th floor. Elevators were quick. Remodeling is going on in the lobby. Plenty of restaurants in the area. All the government buildings where we had business were all walkable. Would stay here again

"Absolutely terrible."

Absolutely terrible for what you pay for. We got the penthouse for our 20th anniversary thinking it would be a grand suite. The room was the size of a shoe box with broken light fixtures, faded carpet, 4$ "complementary" water's. I quickly found out that the water from the tap is undrinkable as well as smelling like a chlorinated sweat sock making bathing in it questionable. We used the Valet to park our car for 2 days, I got the car back with 8 new miles on it and the driver side completely covered in bird poop. I had to go have the car washed and detailed as it was so covered that I could barely see out the window. Somehow the neighborhood was worse then the accommodations, the hotel is directly across from what was a park but is now a homeless/ drug encampment. I did get to see a homeless women the size of Lizzo twerking in the crosswalk. Do not walk around this place at night.
