"A Disappointing Stay That Falls Far Below a 5-Star Standard"

I booked the SLS Hotel as part of The Edit Collection from Chase Sapphire Reserve, expecting a premium, polished experience. Unfortunately, what I got was a string of frustrations that left a sour taste from check-in to check-out. 1. Repeated, Confusing Charges Before I even arrived, the hotel charged my card $2.75. Then $1 on the day of check-in. Then $300 for incidentals—but on the wrong card. When they realized they needed to charge my Chase Sapphire Reserve instead, they charged that card $299. Multiple authorizations with poor communication and no transparency. 2. Misleading “Complimentary” Breakfast As part of my Edit Collection benefits, I was supposed to receive complimentary breakfast for two. What I wasn’t told until after I sat down? A mandatory 20% “Breakfast Staff Charge” plus taxes. That’s not complimentary—that’s deceptive. A “benefit” with hidden fees is no benefit at all. 3. Unannounced, Disruptive Pool Party Friday afternoon, the peace was shattered by a loud, unannounced pool party. I was on the second floor and could feel the bass thumping through the walls. I was told “security was on it” and later that “it ends at 7.” Neither response was acceptable. What about guests who didn’t sign up for a club scene? This happened AGAIN Saturday night with nonresponse responses. 4. Inconsistent Messaging and Poor Communication When I finally spoke to a manager, I was offered a hotel credit. Reasonable, I thought—until I asked to apply it to the outrageous breakfast gratuity and was told no, since it was “gratuity.” Then a different staff member told me I could use it. Which is it? For a hotel of this supposed caliber, the staff communication was sloppy and contradictory. Bottom line: This property does not live up to the 5-star branding. Between billing headaches, misleading benefits, and loud events disrupting the experience, I left feeling misled and disrespected. Chase should reevaluate this property’s place in their Edit Collection.

The staff upgraded us to a suite and made for memorable experience. The rooftop pool is a highlight with great customer service and vibey music. The Beverly Hills location is great for visiting Brentwood and West Hollywood. The car service is another great perk if you are visiting somewhere nearby.
