Location is super nice. No elevators. The view is incredible. I just didn’t feel like I was at a hotel or like I could ask anyone for anything. My husband forgot to tell the bartender we had a complementary coupon for Mai tai and she said she couldn’t make it valid because some how the Mai tai from the coupon were different than the ones they make for (paying) costumers. Really!!! Hahaha The first night bartender was rude. We were waiting and she never acknowledged that we were there until we had to rais our voice to be notice. So apparently booking the Luau in advanced and on the web page doesn’t make you legible to use the $25 dll coupon on 250 dlls or more. Then we booked the Tour to see the whales and guess what??? exactly, the cost is 248 with tax just for you not to get the $25 dll coupon. seriously is just 25 dlls. But god forbid you get some discount. That really annoyed us. Is really stupid. At the end the Luau was canceled so we got 300 dlls back. And Did enjoy the tour to see the whales and we did.

The location is perfect; walkable to many restaurants and shops. Their pool and saltwater lagoon were perfect. I wasn't too impressed with their restaurant but that's a minor thing. The rooms were clean but the shower pressure wasn't the best. The staff were very friendly and supportive. I loved daily morning yoga overlooking the ocean. There is a Lua every night which was fun to watch from our view. We had an ocean view room and nothing could compare to such a gorgeous treat of watching the sunset nightly. We loved supporting a local company instead of the large corporations that have infiltrated the area. Mahalo!

"Ocean Breezes and Luau Music"

My deaf sister (70 yrs) had never been to our tourist area (we live in Hilo), I asked the hotel to put us in a room high up enough so she could view the luau and possibly see the ocean! We couldn’t have been more overjoyed at our room! She was ecstatic and didn’t want to leave! We found the Old Kona Airport runway park (ocean one side, gardens other side) and she was able to put her toes in the ocean and we totally enjoyed our visit. Great job Royal Kona Resort.

"Old, out dated - Avoid"
TripAdvisor user rating 3.0 out of 5

Avoid this hotel, not worth the $$$$. The rooms are outdated. The ceiling in our bathroom was leaking. It was fixed temporarily after complaining, started leaking again. Beds were hard, sliding doors to the balcony needed two people to slide them. They play recorded bird chirping sound in the loop even at night and it was annoying. The private lagoon is not great. If you are expecting a luxury resort, just lower your expectations. Note that there is an extra $25/day resort fee. The Pros: Location is good, staff is courteous and doing what they can with an old facility, Don's Mai Tai is great, Hele On bus 201 trolley stops right outside so convenient to go to Magic sand/Kahulu'u beach. Huggo 's is fantastic. Overall - I don't recommend staying here.
