"Hotel for the dogs"
TripAdvisor user rating 2.0 out of 5

A large portion of my personal hotel rating system comes from how well we slept in that hotel. We spent last night there and I am dragging terribly today. If you are a traveler who brings your dog with you on trips this hotel is the one for you. They allow dogs on all three floors of the hotel so if you think, like we did, that getting a room on one of the upper floors will ensure you will not be awakened by a dog in an adjoining room that won't work here. We were awakened around 6AM this morning by the dog in the room next to us. The breakfast was sub-par, although while I can't explain why but the waffle I made (since the eggs were barely warm) was one of the best ones I've had from a hotel breakfast. We don't hate dogs at all, we have had several of our own, but it's hard to return to a hotel where the risk of a ruined night sleep is high.

"DISGUSTING ROOM, EVEN MORE DISGUSTING OWNERS"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed July 16, 2024
I did a three night stay at this hotel while visiting family in the area, and I'll never go back again. There were major maintenance and cleaning issues, but more importantly the owners are totally unethical. I got in late, and when I went to the bathroom the first morning I noticed that the toilet was shifting around and sitting at an angle. Looking further, it turns out the toilet was unattached to the floor, and every time you flushed, water came surging out onto the floor. Apparently the toilet had been replaced at one point by a total amateur, probably a homemade job. They used a gentle smear of caulk, and didn't use a wax seal at all, and then they put in bolts that were much smaller than the holes they went into. Those bolts had then rusted through, so there was absolutely nothing holding the toilet in place. Then I went to take a shower, and was greeted by a large clump of long dark hair (mine is shorter and unfortunately, gray) and an empty hotel shampoo bottle. After I got dressed, I went downstairs to inform the front desk attendant (who was working double shifts my entire stay) about the problem. He acted very surprised, and made a big show of coming upstairs to check out the situation, accompanied by the laundry guy (who also mops floors). He then moved me to another room down the hall, and made it known that since it was a holiday weekend, they'd call a plumber on Monday. As we went through this charade (and it did turn out to be a charade), I saw that they were working on repairing the bed next door- the laundry guy volunteered that the bed slats had broken overnight. Like I said, I was moved to a room down the hall- on each of the following two mornings, as I passed by my old room I saw the housekeeper in there changing the sheets- it was very obvious that even though they should have blocked off the room while waiting for repairs, they just kept renting it out anyways. As I was getting ready to write this, I noted a review from August 2023 (see kerf_99) talking about the very same unattached toilet- so apparently this bathroom floor has been flooding for a VERY long time! I don't even want to think about the ceiling in the room below this one... MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY, AS I WAS RETURNING TO THE PROPERTY THE LAST EVENING OF MY STAY, I WATCHED THE FRONT DESK GUY TELL A BLACK FAMILY THAT THE HOTEL WAS SOLD OUT FOR THE NIGHT AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO FIND SOMEPLACE ELSE. HAVING BEEN THERE COUPLE OF DAYS, THIS SEEMED REALLY UNLIKELY; SO WHEN I GOT BACK TO MY ROOM I CHECKED THE HOTEL WEBSITE- THEY WERE ONLY AT HALF OCCUPANCY. THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT ONLY SHADY, THEY'RE ALSO RACIST!!!!! THERE ARE MUCH BETTER HOTELS DOWN THE STREET...

"Bathroom Issues"
TripAdvisor user rating 3.0 out of 5
Reviewed May 14, 2024
Overall our stay overnight here was pretty close to excellent with one exception, the bathroom. It wasn't that it was not clean, it was very clean. There were 3 bathroom issues and the first one is one that drives me crazy and the reason for the 3 star review. The tub doesn't drain quickly. The result as you can imagine is standing in 3 inches of dirty water. I really hate that. The other issues in the bathroom were that the toilet had to be flushed more than once (drain related, I guess) and the shampoo had already been used. Other than those issues, the hotel deserves 5 stars. The whole property is very clean, the beds were very comfortable. We had a great sleep after being on the road for 12 hours. The a.c. unit was super quiet. It's obvious that the staff works hard to make this a nice hotel nice for us visitors but someone has to address the drain issue in room 224.

"Nice Reasonably price hotel."
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5
Reviewed January 08, 2024
Nice reasonably priced hotel. Convenient location. Pet friendly. There is a lot of road noise from I-95 if you stay in a room on the back side of the hotel. The room was supposed to be handicap accessible, but the bathroom was not very accessible. There was a tub with an abnormally high side to step over. Shower sprayer was set at chest level. It was supposed to be adjustable, but mounting was broken. We will probably stay there again as it is close to family and a convenient overnight stop on our way to Florida or Myrtle Beach. Breakfast was pretty good. Eggs, Sausage and waffles plus the normal continental items such as breads, cereals and fruits.

"DO NOT STAY HERE! "
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed December 28, 2023
Do not stay here! We stayed one night after going to Kings Dominion's Winterfest. The room was absolutely disgusting and dirty, the safe was ripped apart, phone was sticky and missing it's cover, half of the lights didn't work, barely any hot water, food spilled on dresser, next to fridge was spilled old food and drink, headboard was covered in God knows what (see pic where I wiped a clean spot), carpet hadn't been vacuumed, electrical socket was blown out, there was excessive noise from the hwy, someone's large dog continued to bark all night, and to top it off the maids banged on our room door at 8am to clean the room we had until 11am (we also hung the do not disturb sign on the door). We all slept upsidedown in the beds (only clean things in the room) when we could sleep because the headboards were so gross. We had just drove from SC and played at Kings Dominion until 1030pm so we were exhausted and just wanted to sleep and leave as soon as possible! I've stayed at many hotels and this one was one of the absolute worst! However the front desk staff was kind.
