We had a great two night stay here. I was upgraded to a one-bedroom suite - it was roomy and the bed was SO comfortable. The pool area is quiet (adult only) and pool staff was kind and attentive. This was a perfect location for us since we weren’t going downtown. We enjoyed the pizza restaurant onsite but found the Snug a little pricey for the quality of food. Overall, we loved our stay here - a nice splurge.

We had a pleasant 5 night stay at the hotel. The room was spacious and clean with nice toiletries and we enjoyed relaxing by the pool / hot tubs and traditional sauna on most evenings. On our second evening there was a photographer with a long lens camera taking pictures of a 'model' at the pool / hot tub area for almost an hour - this prevented us from using the facilities since we did not find flash photography conducive to relaxing and did not want to end up in any photos. Someone from the hotel eventually asked them to leave - it did not seem like an official hotel photoshoot and they did not seem to be hotel guests. The hotel is about a 20 minute taxi ride from the centre and it's probably best to stay here if you don't plan to go into the centre for dining or excursions.

Brunch: took ages to arrive. Others came and left before ours plates arrived! Tepid food. Nice view but 1. Staff need training - not paying attention to their orders or table setup 2. Food must be hot when served 3. Prices are top drawer, overall food and service third rate.

"Good, not great"

I write this review on the basis this is a high end hotel and so whilst much of it is good, there were too many irritatingly poor things that mean it isn’t excellent. Service - the staff are super friendly. Really can’t fault them. But ringing a room at 22:10hrs because we forgot to sign the bill when using the pool bar in the afternoon is poor - and asking on the call if we want to leave a tip. A higher end hotel shouldn’t be doing this - sort it in the morning. Pool - I understand the need for a queuing system when there are limited sun beds. However, the system is a farce that relies on a staff member with a little notebook. It doesn’t work and it’s chaotic. Moreover, they leave beds empty for the spa (beds empty for 90 minutes) whilst paying hotel guests wait. They really need to sort a better system because it isn’t a five star one. Many guests were commenting on it. Food/drinks - average. So ice in a drink that you end up with a shot of drink. A $5 cookie the size of a postage stamp. Again - just a little bit rubbish. We were also asked whether we wanted our room cleaned as we were leaving for the afternoon which I can’t help but feel was asked in the hope the answer was no. Again, just another small quality issue. Overall we enjoyed our stay but when you pay a high price, I have a high expectation and there were too many amateurish things which need addressing. I would still recommend staying there.

"Overlooked at Faro's"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed July 24, 2025 NEW
We had a very unpleasant experience for dinner last night at Faro's restaurant in Oak Bay Beach Hotel. We arrived at 6 and were told that due to a reservation we would need to leave by 7:30 due to another reservation. We ordered drinks, appetizers and our main dishes (pizzas). The drinks and appetizers arrived. We then waited for the pizzas, while watching people who arrived after us eat their dinner, and noting that the restaurant was emptying out, and still no pizzas. The explanation given was that a big takeout order had come in (!). Still we waited. Finally at around 7:30 the pizzas arrived. We ate a little bit, but had lost our appetite for enjoying our meal in the restaurant, packed it up, and went home. The restaurant was pretty much empty (although there were people on the patio), although a group of about a dozen people arrived as we were leaving. Yes, the pizza and other appetizers were fine, but we definitely felt snubbed.
