From the moment of arrival, it was clear the Mondrian had lost its way. Confusion at the valet entrance set the tone: indifferent service and a lack of attention to guest experience, both hallmarks of a property in decline. Inside, the newly renovated lobby reads as a stunning miscalculation. Philippe Starck’s iconic, witty vision has been erased in favor of a clumsy, uninspired retrofit. The so-called coffee bar — an awkward, generic installation — looks as though it was imported from a suburban mall rather than conceived for the cultural fabric of West Hollywood. The guest room offered little redemption. While generously sized, the bathroom was cramped and poorly conceived. Material choices throughout suggest cost-cutting over craftsmanship: finishes and fixtures appear to have been sourced from big-box retailers, with none of the refinement or whimsy that once defined the Mondrian experience. Upholstery was sagging, furniture choices bordered on hostile to the human body, and the color palette — particularly an aggressive orange — clashed with any remaining elements of the original design. Small details betrayed larger failures. Towels were thin and worn; rugs overlapped awkwardly, creating tripping hazards; nothing about the space suggested hospitality or care. The overall effect is one of a renovation executed without vision, sensitivity, or understanding of what made the property significant in the first place. SBE’s final years of ownership clearly depleted the property’s spirit, but under Ennismore’s stewardship, the decline feels accelerated. Ennismore now appears less a steward of great properties than a cautionary tale in how bad policy, poor taste, and misplaced budget priorities can squander a legendary brand. If there is any hope for the Mondrian, it will require a bold act of reinvention — led by a designer with both skill and soul. Anything less will consign it to irrelevance.

Autumn was very helpful in assisting me with directions around the hotel and city as well as helped me numerous times when I needed to replace my key. I kept leaving my key in my pocket with my phone which caused it to stop working a few times. Autumn was understanding, helpful, and very nice when assisting me every time. Thank you Autumn and please continue to be a blessing to the customers.

Our stay did not start well. The fromt desk agent with the glasses was very rude and the host at the restaurant was rude as well. Autumn and Euguene came to the rescue, assisted us with our complaints and offered complimentary breakfast which was marvelous. The room was spacious and the Sky Bar was lively. Would book again but please have a chat with your staff.

    "Amazing stay"

I booked this hotel as a mini vacation for my family and I. The hotel is in an excellent location and within walking distance for several things to do and places to eat. The Valet took very good care of us and Autumn over at the front desk was very informative. She was amazing and went above and beyond to make sure my family was comfortable and happy. When we had issues with the room she took care of us right away. Dinner at Casa Madera was delicious and quite busy which was fabulous. Looking forward to staying here again!

"Friendly hotel with large suites and view of downtown Los Angeles"
TripAdvisor user rating 5.0 out of 5

An excellent hotel in a convenient location. Our room was a big suite with a bar and sofa and table and chairs on the 10th floor with a view of downtown Los Angeles and the Griffith Observatory waaaay off in the distance. It was very quiet as it was not overlooking the pool where they have many parties at night. The only complaint was the hotel is not really set up for breakfast and lunch. They do offer it in their Mexican fine dining restaurant Casa Madera but they don’t have much selection. Daily maid service was excellent. They did a very thorough cleaning. Everyone in the hotel was very welcoming to our pet too! Thank you for a nice week in West Hollywood!
