"Hotel Fun"

Hotel Zephyr is the most fun hotel we've ever stayed at: the game area extends from the lobby into the courtyard which has several fire pits and the largest connect 4 game you've ever seen. Whoever designed this place had a ton of fun doing it, and from the creative seating, lighting and little nautical touches, the hotel is a fantastic place for couples, families, or groups of friends who want a comfortable, fun place to gather. Fisherman's Wharf is a huge tourist magnet, and not my favorite part of the city, but the cool neighborhoods like North Beach are a short walk up the hill.

"Fun place and great location in San Francisco"

We had a great stay at the Hotel Zephyr. The location is fantastic for a tourist visit. It is right across from Fisherman’s Wharf and down the street from Pier 39. It is around the corner from the Big Red tour bus, which we used to get around to all the tourist spots. The hotel has a fun vibe, definitely not a cookie cutter place. The lobby is large with comfortable seating, and the patio area is very nice. The fire pits outdoors and free kits for making s’mores was a fun touch. The room was small but clean and the bed was comfortable. My only thing that I would wish for would be more comfortable seating in the room as it had only an office chair and a window bench. I realize that the room size limits that option and given that we were doing so many other things and our time in the room was limited that was not a deal breaker. The staff was great. Thanks to Luelle who was very helpful at both check-in and check-out. We booked directly through the hotel and the service fees were all clearly stated, so we weren’t taken by surprise. There was an extra charge listed on the bill, but when we inquired at checkout we were told that it was a security deposit that would drop off the bill in a day or two, which it did. So the final price was the price we expected. I saw that some reviews complained about the parking fee, but this is San Francisco and you’re not going to find a place to park for free. We arrived earlier than the 4 p.m. check-in and were able to park and leave our car past the check-out time the next day. So it basically amounted to 24 hours of parking in a convenient and secure spot. I clicked on one of the emails offering extra services regarding parking and we ended up with a discount which was great, but even at the full parking price we felt the out the door price for the room was a good deal given the location. All in all we were very happy with our stay and would definitely stay again if we return to San Francisco.

"Horrible Experience, Little Regard for Customers"

After a long day on Pier 39, my 4 year old and I arrived at our room eager for some rest. My phone was out of batteries, but when I plugged it in, the outlet next to the bed did not work. Nor did the next one I tried. I went to call the front desk. The phone didn't work. I had to go down to the front desk to have them send an engineer. He quickly fixed the outlets, but not the phone. Later, I went to give my daughter a bath. The bath was filthy and clearly had not been cleaned. Hanging from the shower curtain rod was a poop-stained pair of underwear. See attached picture. I notified them again, and they promised to clean the room immediately and offer 50% off my first night stay. All was forgiven. But the poop-stained underwear was still there after they "cleaned", and the bath was only marginally cleaner. I still would not have written a bad review, but I left my Bose bluetooth speaker on the nightstand. When I emailed them after I arrived home, they sent a terse response directing me to a third party lost and found website. I entered my ticket and (predictably) never got a response. So, I emailed them to follow up. In their response, it was clear they did not even read my email and had no intention of lifting a finger. Also note I tried calling this hotel several times before the trip to ask some practical questions, but they make it impossible to talk to an actual person. Hotel Zephyr clearly has zero regard for their customers. I've been in much cleaner 2 star hotels with much better service. But hey, the location's great. That's probably why they don't need to care.
