This was our first stay at the Hotel Del. We did not have a reservation but Juan was super friendly and offered us several room options. When he found out we were there to celebrate my birthday he gave us a complimentary upgrade to a room with an ocean view. The hotel is beautiful and the staff provided excellent service.

Although c/i is at 4pm we were told that an early checkin wouldn’t be a problem…..yet here we are waiting for going on 4hrs now!!! And the front desk has a total attitude !!! DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE $$

"Very disappointed for poor quality with high price."
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed September 11, 2025 NEW
I recently stayed at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, in room 2009 at the Beach Village section. I arrived with high expectations, especially since the nightly rate was the highest, I have ever paid for a hotel. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing, as the quality did not match the premium price. Check-in and Reception The reception area was not in the main building. Instead, we were directed to another section that did not resemble a typical hotel front desk. It was difficult to find, requiring us to zigzag through the property, and it was located in a downstairs room with little signage or presence. Facilities and Elevators For a renovated property, the guest elevator leading to our room was in poor condition. There was also no separate service elevator—guests and staff had to share the same one, which felt inappropriate for a luxury hotel. Room and Technology Upon arrival, our room key did not work, and we had to return downstairs for a replacement. The room itself lacked the modern conveniences expected at this price point: • No automatic lighting upon entry; we had to cross the room to turn on lamps individually. • No automated window shades; each had to be opened manually. • Light switches were scattered across different walls, making the setup inconvenient. Linens and Cleanliness The quality of the sheets and towels was surprisingly poor. The towels had a dingy yellow tone, and the sheets looked worn and shabby. I have seen better linens in budget hotels like Motel 6 or Days Inn. Bathroom The bathroom design was equally disappointing: • The sinks were very small (approximately 8x11 inches). • The shower head was outdated, fixed very high, and difficult to adjust for shorter guests. There was no hand shower and no rain shower option. • The walk-in shower was extremely cramped (roughly 3x3 feet) with low water pressure. The bench inside further restricted movement, and because of the narrow space, the water stream did not cover the entire body unless seated. Room Condition • The room had carpet rather than wood flooring, which looked dingy compared to the cleaner, more modern flooring found in many hotels today. • Ants were present in the room. • The tea kettle had not been cleaned after previous use. • The body soap dispenser was empty. Service At checkout, we called the concierge to have our luggage picked up. The phone line repeatedly rang and disconnected, forcing us to go downstairs in person to request assistance. Overall Impression I have stayed at many luxury hotels with far lower rates and have consistently experienced higher standards, modern technology, and better service. Based on the price and reputation, I expected much more from the Hotel Del Coronado. Instead, it felt comparable to a budget motel, only at a premium cost. I hope this feedback is taken as constructive criticism. With improvements in service, maintenance, and amenities, the experience could match the beautiful setting and reputation of this historic hotel.

"Not worth the cost!"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed September 11, 2025 NEW
TripAdvisor deleted my review because "the hotel had a renovation," I stayed after the renovation was completed. Also never heard back from the hotel so my review can stay. Not worth the cost. Wasn’t given the room I reserved, was told they would eventually give me room I reserved but never heard back from them. Room was a connecting room so could hear everything in the next room. Shower heads and steam iron in the room have never been cleaned. Asked for no housekeeping while I was there. Housekeeping came first day, asked again to have no housekeeping and then next day someone came into the room while I was showering. There was no ‘do not disturb’ sign in the room and I asked for that to be delivered but it never was. There are so many better hotels in Coronado with better service for a better price.

"5-Star Service on the Beach."

My friends and I had a wonderful experience relaxing on the beach and enjoying the beautiful views there were seven of us and our server, Wendy Wolf, went above and beyond to ensure we always had drinks and ice. She was also very helpful with food menu recommendations and just making us feel welcome. I know some places that could use Wendy as a trainer for their employees!
