"Very Nice Hotel... but be AWARE Short People... the Beds are HIGHer than Average"

My wife & I stayed here the night before flying out of CLT. The hotel is about a 25 minute drive to CLT, but it is convenient to I-77, fast food, and a couple of sit-down restaurants.. Our "suite" room was very nicely appointed. I especially liked the 16.5 ft. wide furniture configuration comprised of TWO luggage platforms (solid), chest of drawers (with top surface "clear" of typical TV setup) and desk. The TWO large flat-screen TVs were affixed to the vertical "back board" of each luggage platform. I also liked the three big "hanger hooks" in the open area (aside from the closet) that is becoming vogue in many HIEs. Our assigned "suite" had a sofa/pull-out bed, with a handy reading lamp nearby. A coffee table in front of the sofa/pull-out bed afforded even more "stuff shuffling space." The minifridge, microwave oven, and "kitchenette sink" were very nicely tucked over to the side, outside of the immediate sleeping area. More good news: - The bathroom vanity mirror was brightly lighted "all around" the frame. The large mirror was a large 36" x 21". - The bathroom had a "direct switch control" exhaust fan. - The "glow lights" above the beds headboards affords almost glare-free TV watching. - Plenty of power outlets were available. Now for the bad news to which I alluded in the title to my review... The beds were higher than my wife & I find in most hotels. My wife stands at 5' 5" and had a bit of difficulty "hopping up" into her bed. At a height 6' I found myself able to "lean up" into bed, but it indeed felt a bit unusual compared to my usual "lie down" into bed. I thought it interesting - and somwhat helpful - that three "rolling stools" had been provided in the room. The stools could be used for sitting... or to help one to "climb" into bed. The only problem with that approach however, is that the rolling stools... rolled. I could see someone trying to use one of the stools to climb into bed, and have the stool slide out from under their feet... possibly causing the person to fall to the floor. I'm guessing the higher-than-average beds make work a bit easier for the housekeeping staff when making up the beds. But I'm sure a few guests feel slightly challenged to "climb up" into the beds. Oh... one other "aggravating" point... that I find in most hotels. The screened window was bolted shut (permanently.) Couldn't a two-inch open clearance (for FRESH AIR) be provided without safety worries?

Michele, The hotel manager is the rudest person I have ever met. I have stayed at this hotel before and never had the issues I have had today. She charged my card $60 without notifying me that she was Doing so. The most she should have taken was A $25 fee for incidentals. When I called the 800 number to report her and to ask about the charges I was told they could not figure out where the charges were coming from and I needed to wait 48 hours to see if the charges were going to continue to come out. How is this possible? This person does not need to be in customer service. You cannot mess with peoples moneyJust because you have privy to it. As I read the other online reviews I see I’m not the only one who has had an issue with Michelle. Upon checking in she gives me room 326 I walk up to 326, it’s in the middle of the floor not near the elevator, which I had asked for there were hotel rooms available. I’m on the third floor, I asked for the highest floor where there were visibly rooms available. I am greeted with the maintenance man with painters tape all over my door he states that he just painted the door and it is wet and it will be wet for the next 30 minutes so I need to be careful. All the rooms that are available and she’s going to put me in a room that is being worked on? She did not gift me the extra pillows that I had asked prior to checking in therefore the housekeeper brought them up. I told him to be careful the door is wet he put his hand all over the door and said the door has not been painted This door is not wet. He said I don’t know who told you that and I’m sorry. I am at a loss as to why someone who is in upper management would set these type of standards. It is a shame when the ones that work under you are more empathetic than you are. The measure of a man can be determined by putting him in a means of power. Michelle clearly is haughty and not humble. Shameful. So now I do not know if I should check out of the hotel and find a different hotel because what if she makes up bogus charges and I’m responsible for this? This is awful, terrible terrible experience. It takes nothing to be kind, nothing. Oh, AND she put me in a dirty room 326, the beds were used and the trash was still in the trash can from previous customer. As well as, each time I had to reset my key. The key allowed me into hotel but wouldn’t register at my door. STAY AWAY FROM IHG. Management is HORRENDOUS!

I only stayed 1 night so I didn't experience much. I used rewards for my one night stay and didnt have any issues upon checkout. Check out was a breeze. The room was clean upon arrival. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was good and typical HI selection. Overall good experience; I would definitely stay again.

"Very Pleased with both Stays - will stay again"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5

We were very pleased with our stay - we stayed one night on our road trip to Maine and again on the way back to Florida. The bed linens were immaculate - my first priority when choosing a hotel. All the linens were extremely clean with no perfume fragrance which I hate. The shower and bathroom was very clean with no odor of mildew - another important factor for me.Their breakfast was very good: egg white omelet, fabulous pork sausage which I never like or eat, but theirs was amazing. I could have eaten them all. They use all paper products and not Styrofoam - excellent decision. Their OJ was fresh and delish. The entire hotel was maintained very nicely and I found the front desk to be very quick and personable. Thank you for providing such a clean hotel for travelers. It is greatly appreciated and I will always check HIE hotels whenever I travel. Maybe we can do away with plastic silverware and straws someday. In the meantime I bring my own non-disposables. Oh, and they recycle in the dining room!!
