"Charged for two rooms- I would steer clear of this location."

I was greeted at the front desk by a very professional person and was told when I booked my room via my companies website that I had booked a handicap room and was asked if I didn't need it would I be willing to change rooms. I did change rooms and paid a little extra for a bigger room. When I received my credit card bill I was charged for two rooms, that was in August and they are still not giving me a refund, saying it was a late cancel. Left messages for the folks onsite, no call back, called the 800 number, they tried to call the finance team at the Bayfront, they too could not get anyone on the line. Not sure if I will ever get my money back, but since go to San Diego there are plenty of nice Marriott's that you get customer service as a business traveler, not trying to make an extra buck.

We received an upgraded because of my wife's birthday! She enjoyed a birthday message and everything was in walking distance from the beautifully located hotel! On the water, across from the Gaslamp District and Petco Park! We plan to return in the spring!

"The Hotel Was Nice, Though Amenities Are Expensive"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5
Reviewed November 28, 2024 NEW
I recently frequented the San Diego Bayfront Hilton Hotel which reminded me of my time when I took my family there, years ago. This time around, I needed to have the hotel grow on me. My room on the 8th floor was good, not excellent. I found someone's dry cleaner bags in the closet as the cleaning crew did not clean it up. I quickly called Housekeeping about this, and they promptly took care of the issue. I unloaded by belongings and walked around the hotel grounds. As I mentioned, the Hotel began to grow on me. It is in a very nice area, near the Gaslamp neighborhood of San Diego and right next to the San Diego Convention Center. My company paid for the room, therefore I can't comment on the cost of the room, but I did notice that other things were expensive. Having a beer in their OdySea Lounge was over $14, that is steep. The gift shop and market are not cheap either. And I tried to use my rewards at the Starbucks on the premises and they don't take rewards. I've been to nice places before and have had to pay more for certain services, but I seemed this hotel was exorbitant compared to what you got. I stayed for three nights and had a very good sleep each time, it was quiet, the grounds and hotel itself were nice, so as I said, the hotel grew on me. I am giving the hotel a 4 out of 5 ranking because of the cost compared to what you receive for it.

"Terrible experience"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5

They are short staffed so you have to wait a very long time for check in and check out and bell desk service. I waited over 20 mins to check out. There was a long line almost to the front door and there were only two people working the front desk. Impossible to get through to the front desk on the phone. They are clearly short staffed. The rooms are old so there is rust in the bathroom and the bathroom smelled like mold. For what we paid not worth it at all!

"Uncomfortable View"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed November 23, 2024 NEW
As a solo traveler, I was very uncomfortable in my 2nd floor room that was completely behind what I believed was the marquee sign. The room sat at what felt like “ground level” with no visibility. It did not feel safe & the Hilton Garden Inn was not willing to move me. The hotel was otherwise fine, but definitely upgrade yourself as this was not an acceptable option. See photos.
