My husband and i checked into the Hampton inn downtown St. Augustin In Florida, after a long drive from Miramar Beach in the panhandle, we didn't have a reservation, but we walked in and was immediately greeted by 2 women at the front desk ,and a man standing at the corner of the desk, I explained we knew it was late, and didn't have a reservation, they quickly checked availability , and said no problem we have a room, the man introduced us to one of his new employees as one of his new employees, she was amazing checking us in, I'm sorry don't remember her name, but was very pleasant and very accadating, The man that greeted us came up to us with a map of things to do, and places that he recommended to see and eat, later we learned as he introduced himself as, Artie Sorel, the manager, told us about the Christmas light tour and the historical tour and recommended several great places to eat, Artie was very friendly, and we felt very happy that a manager would take time to do this for a guest, we then ,went back to the front desk and asked if they could book us the two tours that Artie told us about, a young woman, names Tatianna, said sure I would be happy to do that for you, and booked them, answering all our questions about where to pick up the tour in the morning, she told us the hotel offers a free trolly to our destination of the tour, and back to the hotel, and she could arrange that too, she was so friendly and very knowledgeable. We then went out for dinner walking around the beautiful , safe downtown area, we were greeted with a smile and how was dinner from Tatiana on arriving back to the hotel, our room was gorgeous, and so very clean, the beds were the most comfortable beds, I would have to say, was the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in on our vacation, traveling from long island newyork to orlando, to Venice and Miramar Beach to ending our vacation in St Augustin Florida,# The best beds ever!!!! The next day went down for our complementary breakfast, and what a delicious breakfast it was!! scrambled eggs Bacon, pantrie, hot oatmeal, Bagles, toast, and my personal favorite the vanilla flavored belgain waffles made to order with all the fixings, the breakfast area and tables were spotless, and met up with Tatiana again ,as she was working that morning in the breakfast area, she immediately said hello with that gorgeous smile of hers, she talked with my husband and I about how we liked last nights tours and what are plans are for the next 2 days of our vacation, everytime we either left or entered the lobby or met an employee in the hallways, we were always greeted with a friendly hello, or enjoy your day / night, just a very friendly atmosphere overall! The morning we checked out, Tatiana was waiting i think for her ride as her shift was over, she wished us well and said come back and see us again! then I asked her if I could get a picture with her, and she, didn't hesitate at all, said "yha sure I feel like we are friends!!" And that is the impression both my husband and I felt too, all I can say is definitely if your in St. Augustin definitely stay at the Hamton inn downtown historical St. Augustin, you will be very Happy you did, and ask for Artie Sorel ,and Tatiana they go above and beyond!!

"A balancing act"

Lots of pluses for this recently renovated Hampton Inn. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with large walk in showers. The front desk is friendly, alert and appropriate. We witnessed a staff member telling a guest checking in with rambunctious children that she needed to subdue them. The little ones were running around the lobby as if it were a playground, and the staffer was absolutely correct with her admonishment. But the lovely lobby was not just disrupted by energetic kids; it was an assault to the nose. There must be a septic system problem as the lobby was saturated in a foul smell. It was like that for hours, still stinking at 10 p.m. when we returned from dinner. The location of the hotel is a bit of a challenge. Given the "historic" title; we thought we would be within easy walking distance of old town, but it really is not, and certainly not in the dark. So we took ubers as driving and parking in old town poses challenges as well. Given that you have to pay to park your car at the hotel, the extra $20+tip for transportation is a little annoying. But the most daunting of experiences was the view from the room. We were on the second floor overlooking the garbage area. But in all things you get what you pay for. And this is not an expensive hotel. So things balance out in the end.

"Great hotel"

This recently had a renovation and it is beautiful. The rooms have light colored furniture and the beds are great. The best part was they removed all the tub /shower combos and put in spacious showers. The only complaint I had about the room was the fact that it took quite awhile to get hot water in the shower. The breakfast was the usual Hampton fare with waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage and all the breakfast breads and cereals. It is just off of what I would consider the historic district but definitely within walking distance and a trolly stop is just across the street.
