"Mixed experience- for parents considering, please read!"

Stayed with my family (spouse, 3 kids, 6, 9, 12 and a 10 pound pup) over New Year's for 2 nights. For parents planning to stay here, this is what I wish I knew ahead of time: before arriving, hit up CVS (or bring from home) and get shampoo, conditioner, hand soap bottle, filtered water, compostable bowls/spoons, cereal, milk. If you have any comfy soft blankets in your car, bring those too. They text you saying how excited they are to welcome you- I responded with our arrival time (we were arriving at night after an 8 hour drive) and we arrived exhausted and our room wasn't available/ready and it took more than half hour to get that sorted out. So I would recommend actually calling (and remember, Williamsburg Inn, a different site, is where you check in) prior to arrival to confirm your room is ready. When you check in, request a microwave in your room (they are not there). Do not fall for the included breakfast promotion. Unless your kids are up and ready to go at 6am, this will be a losing proposition. The breakfast is 1/2 mile minute outdoor walk many buildings away located in the Lodge hotel. It opens at 7am. If you basically come after opening you will be waiting 30+ minutes for a table, you will be cranky, and the kids will eat cereal anyway. You will also be given a bill for the $100+ amount and need to tip on that amount. Save the headache and use that $20 to buy cereal or hit up Dunkins or somewhere else nearby. The kids were also excited to use the pool after dinner, but it is also 1/2 mile outdoor walk away and open from 10-8. I was excited about the breakfast/pool part but the logistics made it difficult to enjoy either of them. It was very convenient walking to Colonial Williamsburg and the rooms were very spacious. I can see that the grounds would be beautiful in the spring, and felt like a safe environment. Free parking also a plus. I don't remember the cost differential, but I think paying a little more to be facing the fountain side would have been worth it. Enjoy!

"Spacious and peaceful atmosphere"

This is a lovely hotel. It's run by the Williamsburg Inn, so you have access to a lot of the same amenities. The atmosphere is so peaceful. I had a water view room, which overlooked the pond. The sound of the fountain was so soothing. If I'd gone in the summer, I would have spent a bunch of time on the balcony. The room itself was very spacious. I had the king bed room. There was a table and two chairs, an arm chair, a couch, a nightstand, a desk, an end table next to the couch, a sink outside the bathroom, plus another inside the bathroom, and a dresser. I made use of all the furniture. I brought my own bagels for breakfast and had take out for dinner one night, so the table and chairs were great. The couch and the bed were very comfortable. It took me awhile to realize the mini fridge was in the closet. The closet also has an iron, safe, luggage rack, and a flashlight. Extra blankets were in the bottom drawer of the dresser. Everything in the room is old, but it felt like a comfortable old that had character, rather than a "tacky road-side motel" old. I actually thought some of the furniture was very pretty. The toiletries were nice as well. On the first floor is an ice machine, a soft drink machine, and a snack machine. Some potential drawbacks to note: When you come back at night, the area is extremely dark even though there are some outdoor lights. Also, there is no elevator. There are only 2 floors, but if you have trouble lifting heavy suitcases, you should request a first floor room. The 3rd drawback, which is the one that mattered most to me, is that if you have a room with an adjoining door, it is NOT sound-proof. The people in the room next to me weren't being rowdy at all, but I could clearly hear their normal-volume conversations. Fortunately they stopped talking around the time I wanted to go to bed, but it could be an issue if you're next to night owls.

Guest rooms are in need of a renovation. Our room felt dirty - mold in the shower, paint bubbling on the ceiling, broken furniture, dirty charging station. Really poor for Colonial Williamsburg!

"Great deal walking distance to Colonia Williamsburg"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5
Reviewed December 15, 2025 NEW
I stayed at the Griffin for one night in December and thought it was a great deal with a lot of up-side and only a few negatives. The hotel is affiliated with the more famous and upscale Williamsburg Inn, which means you get access to the amenities and benefits of the prime location directly adjacent to colonial Williamsburg (it is a 5 minute walk into the heart of Colonial Williamsburg) at a fraction of the price. The rooms were massive and furnished with every thing you'd want. One con was the the interiors (rooms and hallways) were very dated. But given the price, location, and other positives, I think the Griffin is worth it. Next time I come to Williamsburg I will seriously consider staying here again, but I will not buy the pre-paid breakfast add-on when I book it. The "deal" did not save us any money nor did it get us seated at the restaurant faster than guests who hadn't pre-paid.

I realize the rooms are out dated but it is so quiet and we love that it is dog friendly and the outdoor patios are great! The rooms are also huge which is nice for gathering with friends and family. However, we had issues with the heating that weren’t fixed and the rooms could have been cleaned much better. Keep in mind, if you want to plug in your phone at the bedside bring an extension cord or extra long charging cords.
