"NO NOT STAY HERE"

I would never stay here again, nor would I ever recommend The Griffin to anyone. The problems started right after check-in. Our room wasn’t ready, and we were told we’d get a call by 4:00 p.m., which was the original check in time. By 4:45, still no call. We were in town for a wedding and had to be somewhere by 6:00, so we went to the front desk ourselves—only to be told the room was ready and they just “forgot” to call us because it was busy. Completely unacceptable. Less than an hour later, while getting ready, a random couple walked into our room using their key card. I don’t know if the hotel double-booked the room or just handed out the wrong keys, but either way, it was a huge safety issue and made us incredibly uncomfortable, especially as three young women.  Then, after the event, we came back around 1:00 a.m. and couldn’t get into our room because our key cards suddenly didn’t work. Turns out the hotel had rekeyed the room and never bothered to tell us. When I called the front desk, the woman was  incredibly rude, treated me as an inconvenience, and told me I could walk to the Williamsburg Inn in the middle of the night to get new keys, or wait “a really long time” for someone to bring them. I am still  genuinely appalled that as a guest I was told to walk in the cold, dark night to rectify their mistake.  To top it all off, the room itself was disgusting—dead bugs, a  tattered shower curtain that reeked of mildew, and thick dust everywhere. It felt dirty, neglected, and cheap. Meanwhile, other guests staying at the Inn and the Lodge didn’t seem to have any of these issues. The only “compensation” we got was a waived resort fee, which was a pointless charge to begin with. Overall, the experience was awful from start to finish. If you stay at The Griffin, be prepared to feel like a second-class guest.

"Older Hotel - Could use some updating"

We have stayed at this property a few times over the years, back when it was "Providence Hall". While the room is spacious and the bed comfortable, there were lots of signs of wear and tear. The carpet in our room was worn and stained in areas, including a large stain right inside the door. In the bathroom, there was a medium length dark hair on the corner ledge of the tub. We had checked in rather late so we didn't call the front desk to switch rooms. There is no "in-room" phone to call anyway, nor did we know the number to the front desk. The following day, we had to physically go to the front desk and mention this but nothing was done to clean the tub space during our stay. Also, the plumbing under the sink had two large bandaids covering up the gap where the pipes meet the wall. We mentioned this and someone came and removed the bandaids, leaving a two sizeable holes in the wall under the sink. The wifi in the room was slow and inconsistent, even while trying to watching short videos online. It would not have been sufficient for live streaming for a work situation. The TV was not a "smart tv" - it seemed to be offering cable, something rarely seen in hotels in 2025. The room did not include a microwave, which was provided once we asked about it. The drink vending machine in our building did not work during our entire stay. We like the location - it's convenient to Colonial Williamsburg and we have always like the large rooms at this particular property. However, for the price paid, including the extra resort fee each day, it seems like it would just be a better deal to stick with the chain hotels that offer free breakfast, better wifi, cleaner rooms and microwaves for the same price or less. If we had been staying at the Inn, the "old/worn" concerns would have seemed quaint. But at the Griffin, it just seems old and worn. In trying to update this hotel to a more modern feel, from the previous "Colonial" style, it was done only by adding white paint to the walls, while neglecting bathroom and tech/tv/wifi updates, and new carpeting which would really enhance a more modern experience at the Griffin.

The check in was inconvenient as you have to register at a different hotel down the road. The hotel has no luggage carts or elevator. The toilet did not work and the taps leaked. The wifi is inexistant at least in our room. The bed was sunken in the middle. Only the surroundings outside save it from disaster.

"Two night stay at the Griffin Hotel"

Nice place to stay; within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg and nice restaurants. The rooms are a little dated but large and comfortable. A weak and slow internet was the only negative.
