"Disappointed In General"

We were very excited to visit Kauai, and the Grand Hyatt came highly recommended. The pool complex is wonderful, Tidepool restaurant was also excellent. You can also take easy hikes up to scenic views of the beach and ocean. However.... at $900 a night we were quite disappointed with the property as a whole. We were put in a wing that was close to an area being remodeled, which the hotel really needs. Of course the noise and inconvenience of having to go outside to get to ur room, especially in the rain was a negative. Room decor and carpet are dated, we were shocked at the condition of room doors as we walked down the hall. Doors with wood cracking and wood chipped out, elevators with heavy rust spots that were painted over. Just not what we expected from a supposed 5 star resort. Housekeeping has to be requested, however our Housekeeper was excellent. All in all we just have a hard time recommending the Hyatt. The wonderful pool complex just doesn't offset the degenerating condition of the hotel on a whole. Especially at the premium you have to pay.

"Gorgeous landscaping. Wonderful stay!"

The gardens and pool areas are magnificent. Several beautifully designed pools and plenty of chaise lounges. The hallways and rooms are dated and in need of a refresh, but they are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast was lavish and served in a beautiful dining area overlooking the landscaping. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. Kudos to the hotel for providing free washing machines and dryers as well as free laundry detergent and dryer sheets. Hope to return again soon!

"Stunning and Lovely - an almost complete package"

My husband and I came to the hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary after a difficult year of losing several close family members. Right away, our breath was taken away by the close proximity to the ocean, just steps away from the lobby and then again at our room. The staff was helpful and kind. The pool area is a standout. The adults only lazy river and the private beach were our favorite places to go. We saw the sunrise from our room and hiked out to the cliff to see the sunset - the best way to start and end a day. The only sour note was the Tidepools restaurant. It is beautiful with its location right over a koi pond and we were excited to do our anniversary dinner there. The food is fine (for lack of a better word) but we were taken aback with the waitstaffs cavalier nature. I know the atmosphere of Kauai is all about relaxation and tranquility but this was something else. Our waiter was not knowledgeable about menu items and did not seem concerned about being so. The way silverware was cavalierly dumped on the table just before our entrees came was a sharp contrast to the ambiance of the restaurant. Our waiter did not check in on us until it was time to ask about dessert and then after that, seemed to disappear entirely when it came time to close out. The restaurant was not busy at all and it was near closing time, so that seemed odd. Finally, my husband had to hunt for him to make sure we could pay and leave. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We don't have children but it seemed ideal for those who do. Having the welcoming ease of stepping out of our room into paradise is an experience I hope to do again. Just next time, maybe admire the koi from outside Tidepools without going in.
