  • Enjoy an 8.5-hour adventure in Williams, Arizona, Grand Canyon South Rim, that includes a round-trip train ride for 2 hours and 15 minutes each way.
  • Coined the Gateway to the Grand Canyon, Williams is located off I-40, about 33 miles west of Flagstaff.
  • Spend about 3 hours exploring the breathtaking sights of the Grand Canyon, cultural sites, and shops.
  • Allow a minimum of 1 hour before departure time to pick up tickets. Please present a valid photo ID at the train depot's will-call counter.
  • Boarding starts approximately 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. Assigned seats can be found on your ticket.
  • Catch the Cataract Creek Gang and the Marshal square off at the Williams Depot before the train leaves, and watch out for their entertaining shenanigans again on the train.

It’s your time to take a legendary journey to an extraordinary place! The Grand Canyon Railway departs daily from Williams, Arizona, which is about 30 miles west of Flagstaff, just off Interstate 40. The train travels almost due north to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The trip measures 65 miles and takes two hours and 15 minutes each way—45 minutes faster than in 1901 when the train made its first trip. The train departs Grand Canyon Depot each afternoon for the return trip to the Williams Depot. All aboard!

No matter which class of service you choose, you’ll always enjoy a priceless experience with Grand Canyon Railway. Watch a remarkable world go by as you tour the countryside from the comforts of your classic train car. See the terrain change from high desert to prairie, prairie to pine. It’s a view that’s ever-changing until you come across a view so brilliant, it could very well change you. Welcome to the Grand Canyon.

The train’s summer schedule departs daily at 9:30 a.m. (8:30 a.m. in November/December) Arizona mountain standard time.

The train arrives to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon at 11:45 a.m. (10:45 a.m. in November/December) at the Grand Canyon Depot, built in 1910. You’ll arrive in the Historic Village – the heart of human history at the Grand Canyon. You’ll have more than three hours to explore the canyon and its historic buildings and exhibits.

The train departs the canyon at 3:30 p.m. (2:30 p.m. in Nov/Dec) and arrives back to Williams at 5:45 p.m. (4:45 p.m. in Nov/Dec).

Summers are pleasant with temperatures ranging from 50 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, and the evenings are cool, around 40 to 50 degrees. If you venture down into the canyon the temps increase, sometimes exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Winters are cold with temps of around 50 degrees Fahrenheit or below, and spring and fall are generally warm, but can be unpredictable. Best to check weather websites for current forecasts as the weather can fluctuate.
