"Repeated Unaddressed Issues"

We just finished our 6 day/5 night stay and I’m very displeased with the overall experience. We had 5 people on our reservation staying in a Suite (2 queen beds and a sofa bed). When we got to the room there were only 3 towels and 1 roll of toilet paper. There were no sheets at all for the sofa bed. When we called down requesting the correct amount we were told we had to come down to the front desk to get them (we were on the exact opposite side of the building from the front desk). I also requested towels to be refreshed every day (which according to their policy you are allowed to do). The towels were not refreshed each day like I requested - they were actually not refreshed at all. Each time I had to call the front desk and was told to come down to get them myself. Housekeeping is supposed to come every 2 days. They did not come the first scheduled day (Day 3 of the stay) because we had our do not disturb on the door until 1030am. However we were out of the room for the rest of the day. When we came back to the room that night and saw housekeeping did not come I called to ask why. They said housekeeping probably passed by because of the DnD sign. I asked why it wasn’t checked later in the day and I was told they don’t do that. I again had to walk down for towels. They rescheduled the cleaning for the following day (Day 4). They ended up coming to the room Day 4 - however, they again only left 3 towels for 5 people. They did not refill the shampoo/conditioner (both of which were empty by that point as they were not full to begin with). They did not replenish the toilet paper. And they did not take the trash out (which at this point was considerable even with us taking our own trash out). I went down to the front desk to discuss all of these issues the following morning (Day 5). The general manager said he would personally speak to housekeeping and have the room refreshed that day and would give us a credit to use at the Market. When we got back to the room that night - the room had been cleaned but again - ONLY THREE TOWELS. I called and they finally sent someone up to give us the correct amount of towels. On checkout day I went to the front desk to check out and told them about the continuing issues. the general manager was not present this time. I was told I was given $10 to use at the Market. I grabbed three small bags of chips (not even enough money to provide each person on the reservation with a snack) and was told the total was $10.70 and was asked if I wanted to bill the $0.70 to my room! When I said no I would just give her the dollar I was told they didn’t have any change to give me. I am absolutely appalled by how this was handled. We spent over $1000 on this stay and we had to deal with repeated inconveniences and an insulting “credit” of $10 - three small bags of chips. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt and an opportunity to correct mistakes. I understand the initial mistake of incorrect quantities. But I should not have had to call down EVERY DAY for them to provide ONE TOWEL per person on the reservation. I should not have had to WALK TO GET MY OWN TOWELS. After finally getting housekeeping to attend to our room - to have them not take the trash out or replenish shampoo/conditioner/toilet paper - is insane. And then to be “credited” with $10 (on an over $1000 stay) just to be asked if I wanted to charge $0.70 to the room. It’s insulting. It’s quite unfortunate all of this occurred. The room itself was updated and what we were looking for size wise. It’s conveniently located to the attractions we were going to. However, after this type of headache and lack of accountability on the hotels part I highly doubt we will ever be returning.

I showed up at 730am in the morning as my flight was seriously delayed and the car rental was closed. I finally got my car in Richmond, then drove an hour to this hotel. The lady had cancelled my 4 night reservation. She also charged me for one nite...then refused to allow me in my room...which was already paid for. I'm a Platinum Elite member...and I felt like I was treated as if I was staying at Motel 6. She said it's policy. Unbelievable!

The pros: great location--pretty area, easy access to main roads, restaurants in the area. Plenty of free parking. The pool is pretty cool - hybrid indoor and outdoor. The courtyard itself is large and expansive, ample and well appointed outdoor seating under shade. The cons: I was happy to Pardon your Dust during extensive renovations, but I did not appreciate the loud drilling that began at 7:45 AM and woke us all up with a start. Water pressure was TERRIBLE in the shower. Basically a trickle. Front desk staff, while efficient and courteous, felt distant and not warm. So was bistro staff; there was only one attendant, who was busy in the kitchen and out front, and therefore there was always a wait to get their attention to order, even without a crowd of customers. I had just come from a stay at the Courtyard Blacksburg, where the lobby looked exactly the same but felt as comfortable as my own living room because of the employees. Food is standard corporate fare, very average. The hallways were damp and musty, smelling at times like rotten eggs. Housekeeping only came every other day, which is fine except that there was no option to ask for daily cleaning. In sum, it was a standard Courtyard stay but marred by indifferent staff, highly inconvenient renovations, and smelly hallways. Would only stay here again after construction is done, and with expectations for being treated as yet another corporate/business customer.. Read less
