"Kids say: Best hotel ever!"

Amazing Experience. The kids said it was the best hotel ever! The Brick House Shop had a perfect location and very quiet. The kids had their own space in the upstairs room all to themselves. The beds were very comfortable and the parking lot right outside was convenient. We were able to use a deal that gave use the second night 1/2 off, which helped to make the cost more reasonable. If we every come back we will 100% stay in the same house if it is available.

"Didn’t Live Up To Expectations"
TripAdvisor user rating 2.0 out of 5

I stayed at the Brick House Tavern last night. I never review anything and always enjoy where I stay when I travel, but this did not live up to my expectations for various reasons. The location and exterior of the Brick House Tavern was excellent, although it’s nothing you can’t drive to and see for free any day. The room had modern non-colonial things like an outlet, but it was on the floor and I had to bend down to plug in and in the middle of the night I noticed my charger fell out and my phone stopped charging. If it’s a modern thing like outlets etc I think it should be placed in better spots and be of better quality. The bathroom sink collected water when I used it and did not drain well. There’s colonial theming, which I love, and then there’s a feeling of outdated which I do not. The bathrooms could work better, and were just outdated-not “fun colonial” because they did not have these bathrooms in colonial times anyway. If you want a nice enough bathroom to get ready for the day, I don’t think the colonial houses are for you. Just drive over and look at them from the outside, you’ll enjoy it the same! Another aspect that was a disappointment for me was that on their website, they describe the Brick House Tavern as having a “cozy Great Room in the cellar” with a fire going, games to be played, “savoring a cup of American Heritage Hot Chocolate!” Check their website-it says this. The reality for when I was there was a cold empty basement, nobody in it (I went down more than once to check), no hot chocolate anywhere, and I did not see games, and certainly no fire going. It was just an old empty basement, not a place I saw any guests spend their time (photo included in review). That was a surprise from how they described it on the website, and I was looking forward to those things. The last bummer was I planned to enjoy their indoor swimming pool today since it’s chilly out (pools are included in your resort fee), and was told-again to my surprise-it’s closed for weeks. I did not see this mentioned on the website anywhere. This was my first time staying here and I am a huge fan of colonial history. It was a test for me to see if I would stay longer on property in the future. I wish my experience was better. I feel bad even writing this review, but I think people should know about my experience. Other than my stay in a colonial home, Colonial Williamsburg in general is beautiful and I love it here.

"Don't Stay at Colonial Williamsburg Properties."

Our past two experiences were terrible. Cockroaches, muddy bootprints on our bathtub, peeling paint and no hot water in our shower. It's sad as we have been staying here for years. Our last two visits have been terrible. We had one overnight person who listened to us, but others were indifferent to resolving our issues.

"NOT AS ADVERTISED...Colonial Houses Lodge in Willimaburg, Virginia"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed February 26, 2025
As a military veteran, I reserved our stay at Colonial House as a surprise for my wife to celebrate her 50th birthday weekend. Due to our dissatisfaction overall, we departed earlier then planned. To start, I will say the Mr Josiah at the reception desk was quite polite and professional during our arrival checkin process and we were pleased and impresses to receive his kindness. Regarding the negative aspects of our stay at Colonial House, we found upon entry to room #3066 at Brickhouse that the ceiling had evident cracks in several places with one section having a pealed ceiling piece of plaster approximately 6in by 4in tearing off and dangling. Continuing to the bathroom, the toilet seat cover had two (2) large deep cracks. Lift the toilet lid and we found another large deep crack on the toilet seat itself. Turning to the tub, the shower head had obvious soap scum build up and appears to be VERY old and long used with dingy build up. The tub tiles surrounding the faucet handles had several large hole broken into it. I have photos of the above mentioned, should you wish to confirm my statements. As for Colonial Williamsburg itself, more than half of it was closed and the remaining open activities had designated times and were so far apart from each other to visit that we had to rush walk from one to the other. We did not feel the history that has been advertised for so many decades. Colonial House and Colonial Williamsburg were extremely underwhelming and a major disappointment. Upon our request for early check out, my wife expressed our disappointment with Ms.Coffee at the Hotel reception desk. Ms Coffee was kind in accepting our disappointment with grace and a swift checkout process. However, there was no need for Ms. Coffee to say to my wife " You were expecting to stay at the luxury hotel instead of Colonial House but that takes alot more money".. while rubbing her fingers together in the universal sign for money. My wife reitterated again to Ms. Coffee that the expectation was for a history adventure weekend not for luxury, but to celebrate her 50th and to finally take a few days away from her stressful work in Healthcare for which she had not had a full 2 day break in 16 months. My wife had also shown the room photos to Ms. Coffee who acknowledged the unsightly damage in room. We look forward to speaking with a representative regarding this situation. You should be able to find our contact info in your system. To confirm: Date of arrival Saturday 2/15 and expected checkout was 2/17.
