Towering slides, hidden tunnels, and massive climbing structures transform City Museum St. Louis into one of the Midwest’s most imaginative attractions. Inside a former downtown St. Louis shoe factory, nearly 600,000 square feet of artist-built installations rise from salvaged architectural pieces, industrial artifacts, and unexpected objects.

With City Museum St. Louis tickets, you can climb through sculptural structures made from reclaimed materials, crawl through winding passageways, and glide down multi-story slides connecting different floors. More than 30 slides wind through the museum, including a dramatic five-story spiral slide and a 10-story tower rising through the center of the building.

Explore cavern-like tunnels filled with mythical sculptures, navigate the outdoor MonstroCity installation built from repurposed airplanes and fire trucks, or browse unusual collections of architectural fragments and artifacts. Hands-on spaces like Art City encourage creativity, while the Artquarium features both live and sculptural aquatic creatures.

The fourth-floor Labyrinth installation adds a twisting maze built from reclaimed industrial pieces and hidden surprises.

"You will Lose the Kids (and that's ok)"

The City Museum is not just for kids. Yes, there are places a 6-foot, 50-year-old simply can’t squeeze into — but our family (ages 4–20) has made the five-hour trek here multiple times, and every visit feels just as magical. Once you’re inside, you’re transported. You feel free, playful, and incredibly inspired. This place is a massive, ever-growing piece of art. The imagination, detail, craftsmanship, and sheer love poured into it are beyond explanation. You can drop beneath the mosaic floors and slither out from under a whale, climb a three-story tree, or go spelunking through cave systems. Find the five-story slide, get lost in the labyrinth, spot the mermaid hidden in the aquarium tunnels, or scramble up to the highest airplane. Run through skateless half-pipes, crawl into hidden mazes — and then discover even more tucked behind them. It feels endless. A few things to know before you go: You will probably lose the kids — and that’s part of the experience. They’ll happily explore places adults simply don’t fit. You can easily spend an entire day here. Food is expensive, but there are several options (tacos, BBQ, flatbread pizza, snacks), plus coffee and alcohol for those who want it. Lockers are available. Adults: bring knee pads and a headlamp — trust me. The employees are wonderful. They genuinely love what they do and hold all the secrets. Don’t be afraid to ask anything. The rooftop is absolutely worth the extra $$, and the pinball machines are a hit with older kids and adults. Younger kids seemed entertained for about 5–10 minutes before moving on. It does get very crowded during peak hours. If you can, visit during the school day or after dinner — otherwise, expect chaos (the fun kind, but still chaos). This is one of those rare places that feels impossible to fully describe — and even harder to forget.

"poorly imagined for a first time visitor"

We lived two states away and had not been there before. Once we drove just twenty feet onto the property we were looking for a place to park. Our car is quite but heard a lady screaming at our car " hey you back here!" It was an employee tucked away sitting out of sight. Screaming that we need to pay for parking. We didn't know and we didn't see her sitting in a secluded spot. We had no problem paying for parking but that ruined our experoence before we got in the building. Won't go back.

"A pedophile's dream"

This museum is a pedophile's dream. There is sexual depictions everywhere! Animal statues intertwined with other animals. Almost all the animals are sucking on something long. Necked statues. Boobs right when you come in the door at childrens eye level. Upside down butts used as stalagmites. Opening to tunnels that look very sexual. You can't see your kids while they play! It's dark! We left! This place is disgusting and sick! How is this a place presented as a family place!

"Good experience except for deceptive pricing"

I visited during a solo getaway where I needed to get out of my head. This place, with its climbing structures, tunnels, and many surprises forced me to be really aware of my body in space. There are also traditional exhibits (for example, the architecture exhibit) when you need a break from being pushed outside your comfort zone. The museum experience was what I needed, but I was annoyed when I arrived and parking was not $15 as advertised, but $15 plus tax. No one anywhere taxes the parking fee. The parking lot attendant agreed that it was strange, and told me it was a recent change. When I went inside to purchase admission, once again the fee was not $23 as advertised, but $23 plus tax. Taxing admission is also not normal--admission fees are inclusive of taxes. These two purchases with their unexpected "tax" left a bad taste in my mouth. If you need to raise prices, do so transparently--don't pass it off as "tax."

"Endless Possibilities"

We visited City Museum with our two daughters and another family of four. This place is simply amazing. We spent five hours there and merely broached all of the possible activities there. It was inclement weather that day, so we did not include the roof access. Even without roof access, there was so much to explore inside. The $20 per person for general admission was well worth it, as you could spend a whole day...and then some just inside the the building. Great Family Experience!
