"Good downtown hotel, murky pricing practices"

The Good: Stayed two nights. Convenient downtown location within walking distance of the railway station, the convention center and many restaurants and attractions. Lovely historic building. My room was facing away from the street and was fairly quiet. Housekeeping can be quite loud, but they don't start until 9:00. Small room, comfortable bed and pillows, desk area, plenty of conveniently located power outlets. Shower with good water pressure. Safe, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker provided. Standard toiletries. The Bad: The hotel charges a mandatory "Guest Services Fee" of $15.58/day, which covers either items usually included in the room rate (wifi, gym access, in-room safe, in-room coffee) or items of minimal or no value (two 500-ml water bottles a day, local phone calls, faxes). Just a junk fee to make the room rate seem lower. The Ugly: Don't book on the hotel website. Pure bait-and-switch. They show you a so-called "Total rate" without even bothering to mention that it does not include taxes, various surcharges and the "Guest Services Fee". It is not until after the reservation is finalized with your credit card number that all these additional charges are disclosed. Since my reservation was non-refundable (made less than 48 hours in advance), I emailed the hotel and complained. They replied right away, matching the best price I had found on another website.

Excellent hotel overall. Great price, decent location, many walkable amenities. Parking could be better.. stay away from the bus station, unless you have a gun. Some parts of the hotel could use some updating..

I spent Friday and Saturday nights at the Sofia hotel. The room was small but tastefully decorated and was quite comfortable. Good location, nice staff and there were chocolate chip cookies on the pillow!!! Overall, a good value and lots of nice touches.

This is making me write 200 characters. Overall very disappointed. No comp. breakfast. Unbelievable for how expensive it is. Two white guys at the front desk I spoke with both strange, one was condescending. Won’t stay here again.
