Just returned from San Diego. I stayed 3 nights at Sofia Hotel. This is an older hotel with incredibly small rooms. I am talking NYC-style small -- which I wasn't expecting. There was literally only one viable place to put the luggage rack with your (small) bag on top. So many things in my room were creaky (nearly every drawer and cabinet). One drawer wouldnt even stay closed (presumably because the floor or the furtniture was not level). Re the front desk staff: generally competent but not customer service oriented. Each person with whom I interacted acted as if I were an inconvenience to them. What a joy (note sarcasm). On a more positive note, the Currant (hotel restaurant) is a nice casual place. I LOVE the kale salad. Also, the hotel is near the Gaslamp Quarter and the convention center.

Located centrally close to Gaslamp district the hotel is in an excellent position. Staff are really helpful and valet parking easy to find and use on the side of the hotel. Room was really comfortable. Plenty of restaurants close by. Good little gym is freely available to use. I cannot fault the this hotel and would definitely stay again.

It was acceptable. Nothing great but nothing bad. The location was fine. On a main street and you can take the bus from the airport. The sound proofing was poor but it was not a party hotel so while you heard your neighbors, it was not too bad.

While I understand this is an older facility, I just felt every thing was a bit worn. Carpets were well worn and stained, elevators were old, ceilings needed painting, etc. Rooms were very small. Just big enough for one person. Service was friendly and breakfast in the attached restaurant was good. Good for a night, two at most.

It is a lovely hotel. The architecture is really very nice. The rooms are quite small, but if all you are doing is sleeping and changing your clothes it is very clean. The staff is quite nice. It is in a great location, walkable to almost everywhere for food and nightlife. There is a restaurant attached. I've not eaten there, but it is always busy. That says a lot about the food and beverage. I stay here when I'm in town for meetings.
