"Wow, impressive!"

Upon check in, if you have booked a standard room, they ask if you want to upgrade because the rooms are dated and small. I upgraded a bit ($30 a night) and had a very nice room. The haunted room 311 tour is interesting, but not what I had hoped. The hotel is beautiful, and perfectly situated in downtown Chattanooga. Within walking distance to several restaurants and just in general a nice area to feel safe and comfortable exploring by foot. A very nice visit in downtown Chattanooga!

The staff was very polite and attentive! The service at the hotel and at the bar was too notch.the hotel itself was clean and full of history. Everyone seemed to know the history behind the hotel. Great experience!

A beautiful grand old hotel but up to date and modern. Our suite was spacious and very comfortable. Dinner at hotel restaurant, Bridgman’s , was excellent both service and food.

"Bad experience"

Having stayed before in a wonderful room, I was excited to stay at the Read House again. This was a completely different experience. The room was dreadful—dark, nowhere to sit, shades that would not open (if they did, the view was of the side of a building covered in what appeared to be black mold), chipped tiles and mildew in the shower. I asked for a different room. Supposedly no rooms available. No apology, just blank stares. I immediately booked a room at the Westin and left. This was one of my most frustrating experiences in many years of travel around the world. My advice—just go somewhere else.
