Our first stay at The Read House! Love the history and charm of this hotel and we had a very fun and relaxing stay! We ordered the delicious french onion soup at the bar and billards for a more casual dinner and enjoyed exploring all the different areas! The bed was dreamy! Can't wait for our next visit!

"The Read House Tour - Kirby with the Derby Room 311"
TripAdvisor user rating 5.0 out of 5
Reviewed March 31, 2026 NEW
We had the privilege of touring Room 311 with John Kirby in his black derby! The hotel is beautiful with the lobby areas feeling plush and very much takes one back to the hotels of history. Kirby escorted us to Room 311 and told the story with much animation! He is a lot of fun and gave us a thorough accounting of the room’s history. If you are in Chattanooga, spend your nights at The Read House and let the front desk know you would like a tour with Kirby. If you are so inclined and can plan well in advance, you may spend the night in Room 311. It is available only 9 nights throughout the year. If not a guest, just call The Read House and they can set up a tour with Kirby for you.
