A beautiful grand old hotel but up to date and modern. Our suite was spacious and very comfortable. Dinner at hotel restaurant, Bridgman’s , was excellent both service and food.

Having stayed before in a wonderful room, I was excited to stay at the Read House again. This was a completely different experience. The room was dreadful—dark, nowhere to sit, shades that would not open (if they did, the view was of the side of a building covered in what appeared to be black mold), chipped tiles and mildew in the shower. I asked for a different room. Supposedly no rooms available. No apology, just blank stares. I immediately booked a room at the Westin and left. This was one of my most frustrating experiences in many years of travel around the world. My advice—just go somewhere else.

A great location and the hotel feels indulgent and special. Staff on reception were great. The only reason not to give 5 stars is that we asked for milk for the coffee/tea in the room. Reception told us to ask at the bar - the bar gave us milk but we’re going to charge us for it. Turns out you get small milk sachets in the room but no one knew. For such a high end hotel this feels poor and milk should have just been offered regardless. Small touches make a big difference and a shame that a tiny gesture has lessened our experience. Otherwise a fabulous hotel I would recommend

We walked into the Read House and stepped back into time. We were greeted by Kurt at reception desk and mentioned that my dad worked 65 years ago at the Read House as a chef, hired back then John Barnes and red carpet was rolled out! My dad now 90 was able to meet one of the current chef's Brandon and was taken on a tour. Dad remembered the same wooden walkin box doors, the kitchen set up and the current green room. We went a a tour with John to the infamous room 311 and we dined in the upscale restaurant named after Peter "rabbit" Bridgeman's Chophouse. Dad had to ask about every detail of each entree and met with dad's overwhelming approval. Dad has owned over six restaurants in his restaurant career. Bravo to the owners for restoring and preserving a piece of history in the Read House of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Beautifully renovated rooms with modern amenities while preserving the flare of the past. Professional, friendly and exceptional staff from the porter staff, hotel staff, chef, even including our waiter Derek. If you visit Chattanooga the Read House is a must stay!
