I visited Portland October 3rd, for the Portland Half Marathon. This was my first time in Portland, so I had little to go on in terms of hotels except for the various reviews I read before finally settling on the Porter. All reviews I read gave the porter excellent reviews and I could not find anything negative. I must say, I am happy I chose the hotel. The hotel is located downtown portland and was conveniently located about 5 minutes from the race start for the portland half marathon. You are a mile or less from the pearl district where you can visit various restaurants, markets, breweries and other options. As for the hotel? Valet guys are all amazing, friendly, just being kind to customers. Front desk staff were amazing. I was able to check in within minutes, always provided bottles of water when I stopped by and they are just attentive to guests. The room? Good size, comfortable, and most importantly for me, quiet. The only negative thing I can say is that I had issues with my wireless signal in the room but that does not take away from the quality of the room. The hotel has a good coffee shop, a beautiful top desk lounge to get good food, drinks and live music, and the bonus and icing is the indoor pool, with a separate sauna, and steam room, and a gym for those who want to get in a workout. I know some look to find fault in hotels but this was a solid hotel and could not ask for much better!

Nice spot as we stopped into Portland for one night...super clean, nice setup Josh AND Preston in the valet were great help for some tired travelers. One note for management, actually two...when you have three people at the counter at check out (and no guest in line, just me standing there) ONE of you look up from your screens and greet someone , its the HOSPITALITY Industry. AND SECONDLY, I get you are a "cashless" hotel...but at least have some change on hand for for guests to break a big bill to tip your staff . Telling me to walk two blocks to some deli that "may be open" is bad planning. Maybe put up a sign that says "no need to tip because we pay our Frontline staff the highest wage in the Industry" ..which I know you dont..and you are only as good as the kid taking my bag or car.

Amazing stay. The valet was a bit slow on the weekend. The front desk staff is very friendly and welcoming. Thank you so much to Venita for helping me connect to the internet on my laptop in the lobby!

"Poor and expensive food"
TripAdvisor user rating 2.0 out of 5

The room is beautiful, the beds very comfortable. We had to call housekeeping as coffee pods /cups, bottles of soap/lotion were not supplied for several days. The shower body soap dispenser is still empty or not working. The main reason for this review, the food service is deplorable and expensive. Our transportation was limited so we went without. We seldom saw fellow diners at the Terrine Kitchen in the lobby. My first and only breakfast: bacon (which was good) overcooked scrambled eggs, undercooked hash browns soaked in oil/grease served lukewarm with one skinny piece of toast. A truck stop meal would’ve been better and much less expensive. With that experience in mind we were nervous but desperate one evening so ordered a meal of Salmon and rice for a diabetic. The rice was good and plentiful but the piece of salmon was undersized and expensive without a sprig of green in sight, floating on a white plate. When guests stay at your hotel for almost a week it would be nice to have a pleasant food dining experience.
