"We had good time"

We had great time staying at The Ellie Beach resort the entire week in August 2025. Although the hotel has small hiccups here and there like every property that just went through major renovations and reopening, staff is what makes you happy and enjoy your stay. Their team is amazing, trying their best to accommodate, going above and beyond to make sure you are enjoying your stay. The pool area, beach, pier, hotel restaurant are well maintained and clean. Our room was also spacious and clean. They had multiple events going on during our stay including foam party. The market with their coffee and smiling faces in the mornings were just perfect. Parking was also not hard to find and understandable to pay $15 for an overnight like all hotels in the area. Flying over planes and helicopters were not an issue for us as it was quite pleasant to watch them landing while sitting on the beach. Drinks (pina coladas) at the pool area were delicious. Food ordered there was coming out right away. The only think I would like to mention is the pet policy. We were planning to bring out pup with us but unfortunately hotel charges $75 per night not per stay as other Hilton properties. Other than that, we will definitely return next time.

"Fun Stay for the kids - would return."

So, my son's baseball team was playing at the Myrtle Beach Ripken Tournament so the coach picked this hotel because of the water park. I enjoyed the stay BUT there ARE flaws so i couldn't give this a 5 star.. in fact, I would have done 3.5 stars but I gave the benefit of the doubt and did 4. I will say that the team did enjoy the stay. However it does look like a beach motel when you arrive.. it is next to a nice doubletree that is all indoors but this is supposedly the "nicer" of the 2 hotels there and it looks like a motel!! The pool area for the Ellie is 100% better than doubletree. The boys spent all their time there. The room inside is nice and spacious (we had 2 king beds with a table with an arm chair and regular chair and a little counter with a microwave and coffee maker but the fridge was a tiny square fridge.. we luckily had the tiny ice area to put our ice pack in but some friends didn't have that ice area in their fridge). Our floor felt super sandy/gritty as soon as I walked in. I know they "mop" because I saw a room getting mopped when i was walking around but either they use dirty water and dirty mop heads or our room wasn't mopped before check in. So i always felt dirty. We only had 3 sets of towels for 4 people. They use a text system to request things so they did bring us more towels pretty quickly but then through the week (we stayed 6 nights) it was impossible chasing down supplies. I asked for toilet paper, tissues and soap and I would get only tissues. Bring your own soap - their soaps are TINY and we like bar soap in the shower and not the gel crap they hang on the walls. We probably asked them for 6 bars total for the week. We were in room 468 which was outside one of the elevators so that was convenient but the ice room on that floor smelled so moldy and I was scared the ice we were using would make us sick. I can't speak for housekeeping as we kept our do not disturb on the door the entire time. We prefer none... we would change our own garbage and just request towels and leave them towels to take when we were done with them. The pool area gets SUPER crowded fast and towels are hard to come by. Once they are out - they are out and you wait for hours to get one. I ended up grabbing 2 and holding onto them the whole stay, letting them dry in my room. If you order food at the pool, it will take a good 45 minutes to an hour. The restaurant in the hotel is good. Overall easy location to get everywhere.. has some cute activities during the day. The Barnacles area (game area) needs an overhaul. And some fans! it is so hot and stuffy. The pieces for all the games are missing or destroyed. And if you need to do laundry - it is ALL THE WAY at the doubletree. Very annoying. The little grab and go market is a hidden gem, you can find it on the way from registration to doubletree. We'd go back - now I know what to prepare for.

A guaranteed way to disappoint guests is to post pictures that look much better than reality. Photoshop or AI modified. We wondered if the wrong address was in the GPS when we arrived. Simple things that you take for granted when staying at hotel, were not happening. Not easy or fast to find a functioning luggage cart or bellhop, or any employee when you arrive. We were told that they were fully booked and many employees called off. Knowing this, you’d think management would keep tabs on guest experiences, or talk with us at checkout or any of the times we stopped by or called. Our jaws dropped when opening the door to our suite as it looked like a Hilton Garden Inm at best. The floor had sand on it. There is an outdoor hallway that makes you feel like you’re in a motel, where there was a garbage can placed outside our bedroom window. Someone was throwing out garbage looking into our bedroom as we entered, so we closed our drapes the entire stay. Housekeeping had to be chased down or ordered by the front desk the first half of our stay. One morning, they woke us up at 8:30am to ask if we wanted to service. I said yes, can you come back at 10am or later and they didn’t return. Room service and the pier restaurant didn’t answer the phone, but both restaurants were fine for breakfast /lunch if dining in. The lobby/bar was renovated and looked nice. There were no towels any of the days when we got to the pool so we had to keep checking the shelves. There were water bottle filling stations. It was inconvenient especially with a child to have no bathrooms by the pool or on the ground floor, so if you needed a bathroom you had to walk up stairs and inside the hotel. The water slides and splash pad were very nice. The kids enjoyed the game area but ceiling fans are needed as it is sweltering hot, and cover the plumbing as water is dropping. The mini golf had ponds filled w sludge, and were so run down. If the staff cannot agree to what you ask for, think outside the box and offer something. We have a small child and asked for a late checkout because of a later flight. Noon was the best they could offer after asking a manager because our room was booked by another guest who could check in at 4pm. I asked if anything else was possible, like paying for late check out or half day in another room? No. I said ok, we will go to the pool and then just need somewhere to shower and change. Nope, we had to rinse off at the outdoor pool shower and change in the bathroom.

The waterslides / pool area and location really is what saves this place. My kids were in heaven there. The walls are thin, so we could hear everything, especially the loud planes flying overhead from the airport nearby. Thankfully, we already travel with a white noise machine. I don't know how we would have slept otherwise. So definitely consider bringing one. The staff here really needs some lessons in hospitality. Most of the staff we encountered were unfriendly, rude, and acted like guests were an inconvenience to them. (Except Mike; he was awesome.) Rooms were clean and nice. Loved having the option for 2 king sized beds. We slept way better with that than the usual 2 queen bed setup in the room. Also really liked having a kitchenette with mini fridge and microwave so we saved money by having snacks/light lunch in the room. Even though I booked our rooms on points and have Gold status, I was charged a $150 resort fee per room (I had 2 rooms booked) and $15 per day parking was only waived for 1 room. It ended up being pricier than I anticipated with all of the fees. We did the breakfast buffet over at the Double Tree on our last day, which was $22 per person, and it was way better than I expected (the grits were SO good). Overall: good, not great. The grumpy staff is really what brings this place down. A simple smile at check-in / check-out would go a long way. Otherwise, we had a good time here.

Spacious room.Friendly, helpful staff. Outdated decor. Recently purchased property with lots of potential. Ok Didn’t look forward to being in the room after a long day in the sun. Comfy beds. No linens for pullout sofa, we had to call and request them. Corridors to rooms are dark, dreary and smelly. Please update and this could be the best place to stay. Restaurant on site was good for quick breakfast. Average price. Everyone was friendly, kind and helpful. My friend left her credit card in restaurant. We called and they said they didn’t have it. When we returned we went by restaurant and someone had locked it up in the safe. We are thankful for honest people that work there. 🙏🏽 . It’s a huge property with lots of potential with a great deck area away from the pool. Direct access to the beach and a short walk to the pier. Pool area had huge water slide. If traveling with children, a great choice. To walk to neighboring restaurant Damon’s (excellent food, service and view of water) had to walk out on service road or call an Uber for a 3 minute ride…
