We stayed at the Benson due to an awards dinner being held at the hotel. The positives are that all the staff were universally friendly and helpful. The room was larger than we expected, had cozy elements and was clean. Thehitel is also in a good location. The bathroom was a little small fir size of the hotel and the closet was dark with no light. However some of this is to be expected with an older hotel. The reason for my three star rating is that the shower was only lukewarm/cold. When we spoke to the front desk we were told that this was a common thing in the hotel. Not sure if there is a plan to rectify this. Very disappointing for a 4 star hotel.

Once again, affiliation with Hilton/Marriott dumbs down a formerly special hotel. I am so tired of returning to hotels that were formerly a sole property or part of a small group of hotels to find that either Hilton or Marriott bought them or made them part of one of their collections (whatever that means) and find all of the aspects which formerly made the hotel appealing or unique have been homogenized into boring, corporate mediocrity. The Benson used to have the vibe of a grand old hotel, the remodel retained some of that but not enough. The lobby has a distinctly less cozy, more corporate look and feel. For the holidays the decorations used to be amazing, over-the-top grandeur. Now it is meh. The food here used to be above-average for a hotel. I am here for a conference and looking a croissant which more closely resembles a hamburger bun.

The Benson Hotel was great and convenient for getting around in the downtown area. The staff was amazing. Bobby in the breakfast area was super cool and shared his knowledge of the hotel, Portland, and the surrounding areas. Overall, great service! I'll be back!

This hotel was exactly what we needed after traveling for ~19 hours. The staff was not only warm but friendly too. The food was delicious and a huge shout out to Bobby. He helped us with everything and was just amazing. If we are in the area again, we will definitely stay here again.

The Benson Hotel, centrally located easy walking distance to restraunts, in my mind a 5 star hotel. Staff is friendly, rooms are roomy and comfortable, very clean. It was very quiet at night. The lobby is very beautiful, with large mahogany columns, perfect place to sip an after dinner drink by the fireplace. My favorite hotel in Portland.
