"Excellent Location"

My friend and I booked a Deluxe room with two queen beds and a city view. We were upgraded to a river view (maybe because we were staying for two weeks), and the view from the 31st floor was great! The location was excellent, in walking distance to many sights in the Loop (hotel side of the river) and Near North (across the river) and near public transportation. The room was large. It had two queen beds with one nightstand and lamp between them, a long dresser which provided lots of counter space for placing items, and a sitting area with a long sofa, a coffee table on wheels (in the shape of a steamer trunk), a small table with one chair, and a small fridge. The air conditioning worked well; the room stayed cool throughout a three-day heat wave. The room was cool at night, which I like for sleeping. The pillows were a little too thick for a side sleeper like me, but that’s a personal preference. The hotel provided two complimentary bottles of water per person per day, which was a nice touch. Several electrical outlets were scattered around. One on the lamp on the nightstand (along with some USB ports) and two near the dresser were very convenient. A couple (near the table and behind the sofa) were just above or at floor level, which meant bending down to insert a plug (not easy for me) and required a long cable to be usable. The bathroom was large, with a shower stall (no tub) and plenty of counter space on both sides of the sink. The water was hot, and pressure was good. All the staff—desk, door, and cleaning—were very friendly. Two negatives for a short person like me: (1) The bed was high, making it a bit challenging for me to get onto, and not possible for me to sit on comfortably. (2) The table and chair were also high, making them difficult for me to use. For these reasons, along with the two inconvenient outlets, I can’t personally give the hotel a 5-star rating. Nonetheless, I can recommend it wholeheartedly.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Royal Sonesta in June 2025. Service was very notable. From the moment we arrived the valet came and took great care of us. Then later we needed a couple of things from the front desk (extra pillows and a toothbrush) and they responded so quickly! The room was large, comfortable and quiet.

"Nice hotel but pricey extras"

This is a very nice and comfortable hotel. It is located within easy walking distance to Millennium Park and even Navy Pier. (If you are more into restaurants and bars, I'd suggest the north side of the river, though.)The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant Hoyts was nice, and the food that we had there was delicious, (try the cinnamon roll waffle!) although pricey. As a Platinum TravelPass member, I was given a voucher for breakfast for each day, and I mistakenly assumed that I could use it to order breakfast in the restaurant from the menu. That's what I'm used to as a Marriott BonVoy Platinum member. However, when I presented the voucher after breakfast on day 1, I was told it was only good for a breakfast of croissant, fruit, and oatmeal so I had to pay the $70+ incl tip for our breakfast for 2. Just be aware of that. Also, valet parking is $75/day, which I WAS aware of. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and the elevators were fast with very little wait. The fitness center was nice and clean, and the cooler of eucalyptus face cloths was a nice touch.
