"Rio - maybe try anywhere else (except Circus Circus)"

We were offered free rooms to stay at the hotel. We had to pay for the reserve fees only. We overpaid for this hotel! The Rio used to be an nice hotel back in the day. They said that they've remodeled rooms, but did not put us in one. Our room was visually clean, but if you searched, it was not. Many items were broken in the room, and they told us that they were out of liquid soap. Everything in the place just seems dreary. Tiles are missing from elevators, the carpet is just dingy and old, they don't have many gambling table cans, and they don't have any method to get you to the strip other than walking or an Uber type of experience. It is one of the cheaper places to stay in Las Vegas, but that's what you're getting... A cheap place. I would not stay here in the future, I would rather stay on Fremont Street the Fremont casino. This is not horrible. Like circus circus, but I think they're trying to get there. You would think that if they were trying to show you how they're improving the property, they would at least put you in a remodeled room. They made no effort to make this an enjoyable stay.

"Great and convenient off the strip hotel!"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5

The suite was very comfortable and spacious. The pool area was nice and spacious with an adult only pool section. I also liked that the hotel is right off the highway and we did not necessarily have to go down Las Vegas Blvd except to go to the strip. My only disappointment was there was no SPA. That was the only reason I did not give it a 5 star rating.

"Worst Experience Ever!!!!"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5

I wish I could give zero stars, we checked in to Rio yesterday and were given a room, the room smelled very bad and the faucet in the restroom was also broken so I walked to the front desk and requested for another room, I was given another room but the second room was also as shabby and as bad as the first one, I went to the front desk again and requested for another room, instead of upgrading us to a newly renovated room free of charge they charged us $28 more to move us to a newly renovated room. I did not have a good experience dealing with front desk but it’s not all that, the worst was about to come. After 2 hours checking in to the hotel, we decided to have dinner and when we reached the parking lot to get our car, we were shocked to find the rear shield broken and all the bags missing from the car. We lost stuff worth $3500, we left bags in the car because we thought we could get the stuff later. We contacted the security and the dude by name Alberto( I am not sure if I am spelling it right) showed up, the dude was so insensitive and rude, instead of helping us he was asking wierd and annoying questions. He gave us a form to fill and asked us to contact cops, he did not answer any of our questions and when we asked him if he could check the camera footage, he said does not have time to do that😀. The management did not help us in any way and we checked out the hotel with the bad taste in our mouth. The hotel is not worth staying, I have stayed in multiple different hotels on and off the strip but this has been a worst experience so far, stay away from this hotel, you can get a better place to stay by spending bit more.

"Casino is terrible, hotel was fine"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed June 11, 2025 NEW
The hotel part was fine. It’s a bit old but in good shape. It’s the casino that’s the problem. Pit bosses are unfriendly and refused to open games even though there was nobody playing at the tables where they were dealers. Minimums were ridiculously high for a place off the strip that hardly had anybody playing. The customer is at least second, if not third, fourth, or fifth. Do not stay here. All the things that used to make Rio great years ago, are gone.
