"Not good enough"

Beautiful looking hotel. We were excited to finally stay at a JW. Amazing Valet, Bell service and front desk. But…but…THE ROOMS! They seem nice, but the mattresses? They use the ones that Motel 6 sends back. They are the most uncomfortable mattresses I’ve ever slept on. Combined with pancake pillows, super uncomfortable sleeping… The noise transfer room to room was unacceptable too. You could hear the mumbling of normal conversation next door. Combined with super slow internet and poor tv channel selection and it’s too much to over look. Holiday Inn Express is more comfortable. Really disappointing…

"Beautiful Hotel and Excellent Dining, but Loyalty Recognition Fell Short"
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5

I’ve stayed at this JW more than 25 nights over the years. As a Gold Member, I was surprised that there was no acknowledgment of my status or added consideration during check-in. I originally booked a King room and in the past have usually been given a nice view or an upgraded room. Due to some medical issues my son was experiencing, I needed to extend our stay by an additional night and change the room to two Queens. When I requested this at the front desk, the gentleman assisting me seemed noticeably put off. I had also requested a high floor and a room away from the elevators when I made the reservation. Despite that, we were assigned room 613, which overlooks the parking garage and is on a lower floor. I understand that it’s not the end of the world, but I do feel that my long-standing loyalty to the Marriott brand should have been taken into consideration when assigning our room. Now the pros: This hotel is absolutely lovely, both inside and out. It’s very well maintained, extremely clean, and even smells pleasant throughout. The common areas are thoughtfully designed to feel both open and private at the same time. The direct skywalk access to the Amway Grand and surrounding downtown areas is also very convenient. Margaux Restaurant and the bar are consistently excellent—not only in taste but also in presentation. The bartenders, wait staff, and hosts/hostesses are all outstanding. The breakfast buffet offers a great variety, and the staff will prepare fresh omelets, eggs, and other items to order. The valet team also deserves recognition. They were helpful, pleasant, quick to respond, and overall great to work with. The guest rooms themselves are clean, comfortable, and nicely appointed, though the lighting could be a bit brighter. Overall, I truly love this hotel and plan to continue staying here. That said, ensuring the staff consistently recognizes and treats loyal Marriott members thoughtfully should remain a top priority.

"Dark but good size room"

Good location convenient to all of downtown. This is a circular building so the rooms are oddly shaped. Generous room size. My room was in desperate need of a floor lamp and stronger light bulbs. It would be very difficult to conduct a video call in the room.

One of the most unprofessional and unpleasant experience ever and safety was a huge concern and an assault took place. There are multiple Marriott hotels in downtown Grand Rapids and I would highly recommend others.

"Modern Hotel in Grand Rapids"

We loved this hotel with a convenient location in Grand Rapids. The staff was very helpful at the desk. The rooms were clean and modern. For JW Marriott product line, this hotel was an excellent value. The hotel was quiet even though located downtown. The restaurant and bar were really nice to hang out. I loved the brunches. A nice little gem in a nice town. Thank you.
