What a lovely, lovely hotel. The mix of new (Grand Tower) and old (Executive Tower) is just beautifully done. The outside of the hotel is beautiful and fits right in with the Chicago architecture AND they decorate it so beautifully. There were butterflies and flowers out there when we stayed. The lobby, pool, fitness area and room were beautiful. We stayed in the Grand Tower in a smaller room (two double beds) and it seemed like one that had been renovated. The bathroom had beautiful marble everywhere, and the room was very clean and comfortable with lovely decor. We even had a partial city view. I had requested one of the sale upgrades, but didn't get it, but I was honestly fine with that. The size was fine for 3 of us, and it was beautifully appointed. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. Just a little firmer than medium I'd say. The only drawbacks: 1. The reports of the sad water pressure are true. It was pretty light. But that's almost never a deal breaker for me as long as I can get clean. And I could easily do that. 2. There is no microwave in the room. You have to go to the 7th floor to use one. 3. You will have to pay activities fees. In a city where you're unlikely to spend time in the hotel doing activities. 4. While the pool is a GORGEOUS historical marvel to look at, it did not appear to be very accessible for disabilities. There are stairs to get to it and then the pool itself is a lap pool with metal rung ladders that drop deep down into the pool. I imagine there are things you can ask for to get into the pool, but it wasn't made clear what those things are. It was also very very hot in there. I get you want to be warm when swimming, but it was too warm. 5. The reports of the AC struggling are also true. Our AC was very quiet and was just like an AC system in a home. However, it did struggle hard to keep the room cool and didn't seem to quite be able to get it there. It was about 85-92 while we were there. It would be a bit warmer than we like it most of the night until it finally cooled enough outside for it to keep up by early morning. However, it wasn't miserable, just not preferred. We were also on the 20th floor which maybe didn't help? 6. You also can, indeed, hear traffic noise but mostly just the loudest stuff like sirens and hot rods. I just used ear plugs and it was fine (and I'm a light sleeper.) Those are the only negatives I saw. The Starbucks inside is a really nice thing to have, but note that Labriola's is just a few steps down the road, and it is AMAZING. Also Stan's Donuts. Overall a really centrally placed hotel in a really beautiful part of the city. The service was also good. Particularly one young woman who helped me get some utensils on the night of 8/10.

We really enjoyed our stay in a junior suite in the Grand Tower. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. Service was great. The pool was spacious, and they provided rafts for guests to lounge on. The location is perfect. Right in the heart of everything. A few cons: the wait for the elevators can be long depending on time of day. The price of parking was really high (but I guess that’s to be expected). The shower has a half glass divider instead of a full door so water ends up all over the bathroom floor. Overall, I would definitely stay here again.

Great location. The hotel is very old and full of history. The pool it's self is something to be marveled. The steakhouse was fabulous, Casa Chi was not. I know you have to work harder with older buildings to keep it clean. Most areas were clean, some were not.
