Hotel Normandie LA is located in downtown Los Angeles and gained notoriety in the 1920s and 1930s. This historical boutique hotel was once home to the English author Malcolm Lowry while writing the famous novel, Under the Volcano.

The hotel houses Cassell's Hamburgers which opened in 1948. Major renovations have brought this Koreatown hotel up to date, it maintains its original aspects from the restored terrazzo floor in the lobby to the rich mahogany doors in the halls. Travelers who are looking to shop may want to visit Melrose Ave and The Grove.

Daily wine reception takes place every evening in the lobby, offering adult guests the chance to unwind with prime pours of whites, reds, and sparkling rosés.

Take a trip back in time at Woody Lovell's classic-style barbershop, located right in the Hotel Normandie. Built in the 1920s with the rest of the building, this antique parlor features much more than just a shave, haircut, and shampoo. The well-groomed hipster haven offers tailoring, beer and whiskey, gentleman’s advice, and an overall commitment to manhood.

Woody Lovell is the founder of The Barber Shop Club, as well as a leading innovator in the male grooming industry. With clients ranging from A-List actors to famous musicians to top professional athletes, Lovell is a consultant to the best of the best. With The Barbershop Club, Lovell creates a space and safe haven for healthy masculinity, offering not only expert grooming but a place for men’s life advice and expression.

"Everything works. Highly recommended, I'll be back"

I really enjoyed my stay, but I knew what to expect. It's urban, Central LA, so, for example, parking is tricky. I really appreciated the text msg from Adam, followed by a short phone conversation, guiding me with the details. It worked out well. There's a five minute loading zone at the front door, but it's hard to spot driving by. And my room, which faced the street, had some traffic noise. Other rooms may be quieter, but I also could see part of the Hollywood sign, and enjoy people watching, so it was worth it. Beautiful, tastefully decorated 1920's LA decor. Most importantly, even though it's old, everything works. Minor complaint: the room's thermostat is complicated, the wrong choice for a hotel room. Should be upgraded to something simple. The front desk folks were great. Cassell's is a classic diner, very welcoming. The wine tasting is a nice bonus. WiFi worked fine, Cable TV was good, too.

We stayed for 7 days and everything went well. We stayed at the last floor and no noise could be heard from street level or hallways/next rooms.

"Amazing and Comfortable Stay!"

My friends and I had a fantastic time here! This hotel is surrounded by amazing selections of food. The surrounding area is what you expect in LA but oddly felt a little more secure. The hotel’s atmosphere is classy and the service is peak hospitality. At check in, CJ helped with our luggage. CJ defiantly set the bar at the start because he did amazing helping my friends and I. The check in process was smooth, prompt, and informative. I can tell the front desk staff work diligently with respect and kindness. I called in to ask a quick question and Johan at the front desk was very polite on the phone. The rooms are rustic and you can feel the history the hotel has. I enjoyed the aesthetics of the bathroom and the small powder-counter that also had a fridge. The beds are comfy, I especially liked the bed’s top sheets. The housekeepers were very friendly in the morning. A small ‘good morning’ said by one of the housekeepers made me feel better at the start of my day of departure. The parking is at the opposite corner of the stoplight intersection. The instructions by CJ really helped! The parking lot attendants were very good at security. Any time they saw my friends and I go to our car to pick something up, they promptly checked on us. I highly recommend this hotel to those who like historic hotels and walking around Koreatown.

"Nice place, great staff, unfortunate experience"

I like this place. The vibe was very cool with lots of vintage stuff. The wine tastings in the lobby were fun and good way to hang out in the public area on your way out for the evenings. I had two main problems with my stay. The first was that there was apparently a power outage not long before I checked in. This seemed to be out of the hands of the staff and created a big mess where they couldn't issue us cards when we checked in so they escorted us to our rooms instead. We were luckily issued cards that evening. However, the internet in the upper floors was also knocked out, and did not return for at least a couple days until after I had left, so I had no internet. As an international traveler I rely on wifi in hotels so this was disappointing. The second was less important, the light in my bathroom was motion activated which isn't uncommon these days, but I think it may have been sound activated too because the thing turned itself on constantly throughout my stay, including all through the night. Even when I draped a towel over it to stop the motion activation, it kept doing it. I suspect something like this might be why people talk about the place being haunted. Anyways, overall I feel like the major problem with my stay was not the fault of the hotel so it's just bad luck.
