We have stayed at this hotel multiple times over the years and we highly recommend it. The staff is friendly and professional. The rooms are always clean and comfortable. The adjacent cafe is wonderful, and the location is fantastic. We will stay here again. We want to especially thank Edward and Andrew at the front door who were always so helpful to us on our most recent stay.

"Double booked my room and expected us to simply accept it."

To begin with the positives, the King Broadway View room is very nice and the views are as advertised. The hotel is generally clean and well looked after and the door staff in particular are very helpful. It's a good area for nearby access to the city and the subway for trips further afield. However my experience was largely negative. The first night we arrived our flight had been cancelled, as such we arrived at midnight rather than 3 in the afternoon. I emailed the hotel to inform them of this. On arrival they claimed that my King Broadway View room was occupied. They gave some vague and incomprehensible excuse as to why this was but from previous experience with dodgy hotels it was obvious to me they sold it when they realised I would be late. Presumably they thought I would just accept this. A foolish assumption. They then put us in a smaller room that smelled as if it had been occupied by a football team for a week with a connecting door which leaked in noise in a hotel that already has relatively thin walls. I asked to immediately be moved and was put in a very small room with a view of a wall. They claimed I would be placed in my correct room the next day but in order to achieve this I had to speak to 3 different staff members and go through the same story repeatedly. It was as if no record was made of the problem and my subsequent complaint. I was told my bags would be moved to the new room but when I returned this had not happened and I simply did it myself. Naturally I demanded that I was refunded the difference for the discrepancy in room quality for the first night. This was secured on the final day after I once again had to speak to yet another manager. This should have happened automatically. In general the hotel is nice but it is by no means a 4 star hotel and not worthy of the price. Beware that the walls are very thin and there are lots of rooms crammed into a relatively small space. Fortunately once I was in my correct room our neighbours were relatively quiet but if you were placed next to anyone with less respect for others the noise would probably be intolerable. The cleaners do the bare minimum in your room. I dropped some crumbs on the floor courtesy of the fantastic French bakery downstairs and after the room had been cleaned they were still there. The bed was haphazardly tucked away with bits of sheet and duvet flopping out etc. In Europe such a hotel would never get a 4 star rating.

"Hotel Belleclaire on New York City’s Upper West Side is a winner!"

Excellent eight day stay. Property is well-maintained, professional, friendly, kind staff, welcoming and helpful. David, the Front Desk Manager, provided me with personalized assistance that made a good experience great. I love the location on the Upper West Side. Easy access to the subway two short blocks away, everything you could want is in the surrounding blocks, including Riverside Park. The Hotel offers free happy hour a couple times a week, bottled water is also free. A lovely French pastry shop is attached to the hotel. You get a $10 coupon per day to use for food and drink. It’s delicious! There is a gym that is well-equipped for a hotel, but could benefit from fans for circulating air. The hotel is small enough to not feel impersonal or overwhelming. Rooms are quite different from one another, including size. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to call and ask specific questions about the room you are booking. The staff are helpful. I’ve stayed there twice this year and will definitely return.

"Excellent choice for my 5 days stay in NYC"

The location (Upper West) is perfect, because the area is much calmer than others in Manhattan; plus, the underground is very close to the hotel. The room was nicely decorated, confortable, clean and amazingly (NYC can be so noisy) silent. The staff is kind and professional.
