"Exceeded my expectations!"

After reading recent reviews, I was a bit skeptical, however I couldn't have been more pleased! Check-in was fast and friendly, the room was spotless, and the food and drinks were amazing. We stayed on the 14th floor and it appeared to have been recently renovated. I think this hotel gets a bad rap because of the area it is in which is a little rundown, but that is not their fault. It is close to the freeway, major attractions such as the San Diego zoo and Seaworld, and right across the freeway are all sorts of restaurants and shopping. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again !

"Is this really a Hilton?"
TripAdvisor user rating 1.0 out of 5
Reviewed July 10, 2025 NEW
I’m genuinely shocked that the Hilton Mission Valley is allowed to operate under the Hilton name. From the moment we arrived, it felt completely off. Trash was piled up right in front of the main entrance—hard to miss, and even harder to excuse. Not the kind of welcome you'd expect from a brand that claims to value hospitality. At check-in, the experience only got worse. The staff member at the front desk didn't greet me, didn’t welcome me, and spent most of the time chatting in another language with a coworker instead of paying attention to me. It felt like I was interrupting their private conversation, not checking into a hotel where I’m paying good money to stay. And then we got to the room. Disgusting. Broken. Embarrassing. None of the outlets or USB ports worked. The toilet and sink were visibly dirty. Lamps were broken. The pillow had stains. And just to top it all off—I tried calling the front desk to complain and guess what? The phone didn’t even work. Total breakdown in basic function. I turned to my wife and said, “Is this really a Hilton or did we accidentally check into a Motel 6?” And sadly, I was serious. Now, I know Hilton will probably respond to this review with their copy-paste, robotic apology. Something like: “We’re sorry to hear about your experience. Please reach out to us at [generic website] or call our main line if you wish to discuss this further.” Let me stop you right there—if Hilton actually cared, the hotel manager would personally reach out, or at the very least, they’d include the manager’s contact info in the response. But no. Just the usual PR band-aid. I don’t want future guests reading Hilton’s standard reply and thinking “Oh, they must have followed up and made it right.” They didn’t. They won’t. It’s just noise. Do yourself a favor—stay anywhere else. There’s nothing "Hilton" about the Hilton Mission Valley except the sign on the building.

"Disappointing - Not a 4-star hotel"
TripAdvisor user rating 2.0 out of 5
Reviewed June 15, 2025
Our stay/room was very disppointing. My family was traveling with another family and we decided to splurge and stay at a “4-star hotel.” Other Hiltons we’ve been to were nice so we assumed this one would be great and luxurious too. This is far from a 4-star hotel and what is expected of the Hilton brand. Not worth the money. It was extremely disappointing in so many ways. - The room just didn’t feel really clean. - The ceiling had a smashed bug and guts spread around it (see 2 pics). It’s like someone took their shoe and hit it and no one bothered to clean it up. - Bathroom horrible. o The toilet looked like it hadn’t been flushed well but then it turned out to be scratches (see pic). o Bathroom shower - No seal on the shower door between the door and glass panel where it shuts and the bottom so water gets everywhere. (see pic) o Also, in the bathroom an entire piece of baseboard on a corner is missing and looks run down (see pic) o Fan in bathroom didn’t work. o We could hear our neighbor’s conversations and business in the bathroom through the vent. o We also had 3 people registered for the room but were only given enough towels for 2 so had to ask for more first thing after arriving. o Something wrong with plumbing in the bathroom. After using the sink, when you walked away you could hear “bloop bloop bloop….” In the pipes until it was finally drained. o Shower head so high it’s like it’s for someone 10 feet tall. No hand held shower sprayer. o Toilet paper thin like toilet paper and hard to reach. Was way behind the toilet on the shower wall. Not a lot of places to put it but could have put it on the wooden siding of the sink for easier reach. Our 10-year old had a lot of trouble reaching it. o Fire sprinkler looked really dirty with rust all around it (see pic). - The room windows were run down. Half the window missing it’s framing. It’s like they put in a new window but didn’t finish the framing (see pics) - The wood frame around the fridge/closet around is chipped and splintering (see pics) - We used the pool. It was cold and my daughter said a lot of dead bugs in the bottom of it. Pools towels offered were really thin like dish towels and not a good quality for any type of drying off. We looked down from our room at 7:30am and towels were left out and not cleaned up all around the pool area. - Walls and doors very thin. Someone left around 4am and we could hear them talking and slamming doors in the hallway. Very loud and easy to hear everything. - Pay all that money and the two bottles of water in the room not even complimentary unless you’re some gold member. - Parking also expensive. The good things: - They allowed us to leave our bags in their storage area all day until our rooms were ready as we couldn't leave them in our car where we were going. - Close to the zoo and freeway.

"Unfortunately, not what I expected from the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley"

This was my first time staying at a Hilton in San Diego, and I was expecting more, but received less. I was headed to San Diego because my nephew was graduating from the Marines. Before boarding my flight from TEXAS, I used the HILTON app to message the hotel 3 hours later, and I still did get a response from the front desk. I had to message them again once I landed, and finally, I got a response. I wanted to inquire about checking into the hotel earlier than 4 p.m. I appreciate them allowing me to check in at 2 pm versus 4 pm. The room was fine, as I was placed on the 5th floor, and my family members were on the 10th floor. The room did not have a microwave in the room, the first floor in the lobby is where the only microwave was located. The microwave needs to be replaced ASAP it took almost 10 minutes to warm up some Phó. The microfridge in the room did not work properly, and when I went to eat my pasta the next day, it had spoiled. The wall lights did not work (maybe the bulbs need to be replaced, but both led me to believe it was electrical). The last minor thing, as it relates to the room, is that there were no robes. I'm used to that. The customer service varied depending on shifts. Firstly, during my entire stay from Wednesday to Monday, housekeeping would bust into the room without knocking. This happened when I was lying down and when I was changing clothes. While in my family members' rooms, it happened to them. I don't think housekeeping and the front desk were on the same page on vacant rooms versus occupied rooms. When I returned to my room, housekeeping was half done, and trash from dinner the night before, and dishes from the restaurants were left in my room twice. I was super annoyed, especially since I locked myself out of my room while taking out the trash.(AND no, I did not have my DND sign on my door) So there's no confusion - I wanted housekeeping services. Lastly, The front desk staff did not greet us as we entered and exited the hotel, I'm used to that - a simple greeting or "how is your stay going so far?" would go a long way as we are entrering and exiting the lobby of the hotel, I didn't need it everyday during my stay, but I didn't get it at all. Overall the hotel is in a good location everything is in walking distance food, groceries, electronics, beauty and wellness, etc.

"Disappointed"

We chose this hotel excepting to have an Hilton quality. We had a room at the last floor. It was impossible to sleep because of the noise above the roof. The bathroom was fine but the shower was not adjustable, because I’m not tall I had to hold the shower with my hand. (Very convenient when you are a woman and need to wash your hair…) the hair dryer doesn’t work. The coffee machine doesn’t work too. This hotel charge 37$ for the parking overnight, there is absolutely no security in the parking. The gate was open all the time and the parking floor was in very bad condition. We had to be very caution with our car. In resume this hotel was very expensive for a bad quality.
