"CHARLESTON CHARM AND HOSPITALITY"

Our stay at Francis Marion Hotel helped give us the charm of Charleston. The room was clean and comfortable. The concierge Karin was so helpful in helping us to choose the best restaurants and tours that the city offered. We can hardly wait to return.

"Decent place, but overpriced."

Hotel is pretty. The lobby is impressive. Staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was nice, but small. It had minor defects like chipped paint and flawed wall paint. The toilet (which was otherwise clean) had a hard-water stain. Check-in is at 4:00 pm but ought to be 1:00 pm. I guess this is Charleston's standard. All of that is OK, but $300 a night (we paid $746 for two nights) is too much. Sometimes the room rate is $600 a night -- who knows why -- and that is double the already expensive room rate we paid. (To be fair, we went to Francis Marion because other hotels in the area were charging a lot more.)

The staff at Swamp Fox is Bar None, the most Exceptional staff of anyone, anywhere! Kick it off with manager, Ricardo, aka, The Muffin Man, supplying us, along with his crew of Evening Elves, with as many chocolate muffins as a human being can hope to consume. Then The Morning Crew, including the Outrageously Fabulous Talents of Dorothy, Eric, and Sylvie, acts as the Doctors of Food. Tummy hurts? Have some homemade bitters whipped up in the kitchen. Need a side of this or that? Already done. Changed your mind and ordered something else? Handled. I would forward my mail and take up residence if my boss would let me. When you come to Charleston, SC, stay at Francis Marion Hotel (the lotion in the room is to die for) and take all your meals in house at Swamp Fox! Tell'em the Traveling Twits from Indiana sent you!!

"Good location for walking the city, but uncomfortable sleeping arrangements"

Lovely downtown location and gracious lobby. But rooms assigned didn't match rooms booked, leaving us with pull-out couches for women over 60. We had requested 2 rooms with 2 double beds, got 2 rooms each with one bed and a pull out couch, and no price adjustment.

Good location, but room types we were assigned didn't match what we booked. Booked over 4 months in advance, requesting 2 rooms with 2 beds each. Got 2 rooms with one bed each and a pull-out couch and no adjustment in the billing. Clouded our enjoyment of the whole weekend.
