Embassy Suites Downtown Portland was a great choice. The location is convenient and lots of restaurants around the area plus the free breakfast and evening reception is a great benefit. I would like to say thank you to Wade at the front desk, he is amazing and very helpful, he gave us some great tips where to eat and history of the hotel. The room is also spacious and great for family. The Vodoo donuts and the Portland sign is just a few minutes walk from the hotel. Public transport is also also nearby. We had a great time and would definitely stay here again.

300$ fine for vaping a weed cartridge in the room. There was no signage in the room or otherwise conveying this policy to us. Just this document under the door. The clerk at the desk said there was nothing he could do but did comment signage was something they were ‘behind on’.

For a $1000+ stay, here is what we had to deal with… When we arrived, we inquired about parking (as the site clearly stated they had parking for guests). It was only then, at check-in—and with no prior notification whatsoever—that we were told valet was our only option, unless we were willing to risk parking our vehicle on the street… in the China Town district of Portland. Also, let me emphasize: $65 A DAY for valet parking. To make matters worse, the valet parking location is in a closed, no-access parking garage. While we understand the security benefits of that, it means guests have absolutely no convenient access to their own vehicles if they need to grab something or check on their car. Not even limited hours or supervised access was offered. The hotel’s elevators were some of the smallest we've ever seen, making it incredibly difficult to move luggage or navigate with more than two people. Then, when it was time to check out, there were absolutely no carts available. None. We weren’t offered a wait time, no assistance, no alternative solution—nothing. Imagine trying to check out, handle a dog, and get all your belongings out to the valet without a cart or any support from staff. Completely unacceptable. The couch in the room was a pull-out, which was broken to an extent that even using it as a regular couch was uncomfortable. When we attempted to pull it out for sleeping, it was so deteriorated that a sharp metal piece was sticking out—and it actually cut my girlfriend’s son’s leg. This wasn’t just worn—it was dangerous. The shower barely functioned. Water pressure was terrible, and to make things worse, there was no fan in the bathroom and none of the five windows in the room could be opened. The room became a muggy, stale sauna, especially at night. Despite cranking the air conditioning to its highest setting, we remained uncomfortably warm the entire stay, with no options to improve airflow or comfort. Now. Let’s talk about the location... The perimeter of the hotel reeked of urine, and we saw what was clearly aged human feces on the sidewalks around the property. The surrounding area felt unsafe and deteriorated. It’s clear the hotel knows most guests won’t want to venture out far, and they take advantage of that—$6 for a bag of M&M’s in their tiny shop, which felt like blatant price gouging. Later at night, when we went outside to meet a DoorDash driver, there were people openly loitering, clearly under the influence of various substances. Despite this, the hotel staff did nothing to address the situation or provide additional security. This was at the entrance. Again, this was a $1,000+ stay… for just two nights. When we first arrived, we were genuinely excited and talked about how this might be our go-to spot for future Portland visits. But absolutely not. After this experience, we will never be back, and we will be telling everyone we know about how misled we were. Our stay felt like the biggest bait-and-switch we’ve ever experienced, and honestly, it was a complete and utter disappointment from start to finish.

"Great old hotel with character."
TripAdvisor user rating 4.0 out of 5

I much prefer older hotels. They may not be as up to date as newer places, but they have character and don’t look like they were decorated by someone who hated their job. The lobby was glorious, and I spent time looking at the details. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. I don’t ask for a lot and was happy enough with the breakfast. There were made to order omelets and fresh pineapple. There was hot oatmeal and oat milk. I didn’t have to fix any of it. Overall I was very happy and would love to stay again.
