"A Disappointing Stay, Not an “Upgrade”."

We chose this hotel for a family wedding and were very let down by our experience. Upon check-in, the process was slow. We were told our reserved room had been “upgraded”, but when we got to the room, we realized it was a handicapped-accessible room. While we understood the need for these rooms, the amenities were not what we had reserved and were not functional for our needs. The shower and bathroom facilities were specifically designed for guests with physical challenges, and the closet rod was so low we couldn’t hang our wedding clothes. Bizarrely, the room also had a full gym and bike equipment, a feature we had no use for. We had to hang our formal wear from the gym equipment to keep it from dragging on the visibly dirty floor. When we called the front desk to switch to our originally reserved room, we were told none were available due to a sports team. We had no choice but to stay in a room that was not what we needed or expected. This was a frustrating and disappointing experience. We would not recommend this hotel and will not be returning.

Our stay was amazing! Kind, professional staff. Rooms were huge with beautiful decor The food was better than a restaurant and the complimentary breakfast wash fresh, to order omelette, French toast and more. We used their business services which made our work easier.

"So much I liked!"

There is so much I appreciate at this hotel. There is a convenient parking garage attached to the hotel. During my stay it was $25 a night. I’ve stayed at hotels that valeted your car at $78 a night and you can’t easily come and go as you wait for a valet. Self-parking was nice. Room- An actual separate room with a sliding barn-type door is so helpful while my husband watches late tv in one room and I can sleep in the bedroom; and I’m an early riser so the second room with couch allowed me to make coffee, read and do yoga (so much space!) while he slept in. K-cup coffee machine so I can bring my extra. Nice roomy shower. Hot water. Plenty of counter space for my toiletries. The breakfast was phenomenal. Actual cooks making eggs your way, plus sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, potatoes, fresh fruit, yogurts, breads …! Not many places give you an option of chorizo in your omelet! Social/happy hour had nice energy with outside and inside seating. What stands out for me is the first impression of exceptional customer service while checking in. The first hotel member I encountered was genuinely friendly, smiling and professional. It set the tone for a positive stay. The staff working the bar at happy hour were also friendly and hard working! At breakfast, I was greeted with a super smile as the gentleman checked me in (room # and name). Management must do a great job of hiring the right people, and treating them right to be so nice, friendly, professional and welcoming to guests! Thank you Embassy Suites! (Diane)

"Gorgeous hotel!"

What a gorgeous hotel! The lobby is stunning, with a really cool fountain and a two-story live plant wall which face each other. Parking is easy with a parking structure right there. The room was well-appointed, spacious, and comfortable. We especially loved the balcony overlooking the river and the door to the bedroom. The only drawback, is that this hotel is not in the heart of the city, so you do have to walk a ways to get to the majority of restaurants, shops, and things to do. But there are a couple of restaurants within easy walking distance, just not the full array that downtown GR has to offer. If you don’t mind a little walk to town [half mile, maybe less], then this is a great hotel. The riverwalk starts right across the street, and it looks like it was being lengthened while we were there. I just love the riverwalk! Small hiccup was when we told the person at the desk that the elevator would not “call” up to floor 3 on the parking structure to go down, and she was like, “Oh yeah, we know about that. You just have to press the Up button instead of the Down button, and then you can go Up first and then you can go Down.” There was no sign on the elevator stating this, so we had no way of knowing that. And by the way she spoke about it, she had no intention of reporting it, and it is a known problem. That is unacceptable. Luckily, we were able to take the stairs, but I was super sore from falling a few days before so that was not ideal. And this would cause a serious obstacle for a disabled person. SO, desk staff needs to report issues and maintenance staff needs to be called to address them. But all in all, we really loved this hotel and plan to make this our go-to hotel in Grand Rapids for future visits.
