"Grand Prix fun!"

We were there for the Grand Prix this past weekend. We came in super late Friday and many roads were blocked so it was a bear to get into the right lot because roads were blocked for races. ( totally get it). The woman that helped guide us into the right lot and street was fantastic and super kind. I cannot remember her name. It was late… she was awesome! The service was super fast and nice once we got there. The building is amazing. Wow! Beautiful!🤩 When we left we had Jeffrey and Ken help us in the valet. Super nice and helpful! Detroit proved its weight in Gold with the kindness of strangers throughout the weekend! We will be back next year!!

"Solid stay for a big event."

We were very happy with our stay. We stayed on points for the Grand Prix. The hotel is perfectly situated for that event but the downside is many blocked streets. The hotel tried hard to help guests navigate. The only thing they missed was to send a pin for mapping where to navigate for check in. Was happy they offered us late check out and a free breakfast for our status. The walls are a bit thin but not horrible. Also liked that housekeeping defaults to on here.

"Solid conference hotel"

I stayed at the RenCen for a conference, which I expect is most of their clientele. The room had all the essentials and a fantastic view - I was on the 58th floor with a lovely view of Belle Isle and the river! Hotel staff were polite and helpful, including the bellhop service to allow me to store my bags before check-in and after check-out. The location can't be beat in terms of accessing all that Detroit has to offer, and being able to hop on the People Mover to get around downtown without going outside was super useful given the poor weather during my stay. The building complex is a labyrinth, and for some reason I received an email from the hotel with maps and tips for locating amenities around noon the day after I checked in, which was a bit odd - it would have been lovely to get that when I checked in.

"Below Average Marriott"

I had to come to Detroit for business and this was the host hotel. The good… I like that this was attached to what I believe they called the GM center and you had sort of a business area and some restaurants inside. There were cars displayed in that area, which was kind of neat. We actually were able to host a dinner that was convenient to this hotel where we didn’t have to walk outside. We could just walk to this area. The bad… The room needs some work. It also needs some renovation with the furniture. I had a chair that was all torn up. I don’t understand why you would even keep this chair in a room. I would have thrown this chair away and bought any type of chair and it would’ve looked better than this chair. I didn’t sit in it. I didn’t even hang my coat on it. It was disgusting. The lampshade had some sort of stain or blood or something on it. I am happy that I only had to stay two nights in this hotel. One other thing I didn’t like is that you couldn’t get food at a certain hour in room service so I wasn’t able to order when I got back to the room from a work event. The rate at this hotel for my stay was as if it was a luxury five star resort which obviously it was not. I would not pick this hotel to stay in again.

"Nice stay at the Detroit Marriott"

I was at the hotel for four days for a large business conference. As a Titanium Elite member, I requested an upgrade, but they told me there was nothing available. They said that they gave me a "more renovated" room, but I have no way of knowing if that's correct. I was on the West side, about four floors below the concierge floor which was better than being on the East side where I would have had to go down to the lobby, switch to the West side in order to go to the lounge. The room was fine, just a bit small. The view was pretty, The hotel is enormous, but parts of it are deserted—kind of weird. A group of us used the free People Mover, located out the back of the hotel, to get to an offsite party. That was very convenient. The concierhe lounge was fine - nothing great compared to some other Marriott hotels, but it was nice that it was typically stocked with soft drinks and water bottles. The desserts at night were good; the cocktail hour had only two hors d'oeuvres that didn't look too appetizing. At one point, I walked into the lounge in the middle of the day, and one of the workers wasn't very friendly. I asked for hot tea and a bottle of water because the hot water was missing and the water bottles were gone. She very reluctantly gave me a cup of hot water, but told me that she was doing inventory and couldn't get me a water bottle. I found a bunch of water bottles in a cabinet so I grabbed one - but that was a truly a ridiculous exchange. I wasn't offered a breakfast voucher when I checked in, but I did forget to explicitly ask for one. The two restaurants in the hotel were both fine with friendly service. The conference spaces were fine - good acoustics. Easy to get ubers from the lobby. Overall the stay was fine - just nothing special.
