I found out the policy of this water park the hard way. My grandson (11 years old) were in the wave pool. I lost site of him, (as he's has passed a swimming test) I could not find him I looked everywhere I also asked the three life guards to help me find him as the panic fueled. They asked what he looked like plus what he where wearing. I explained to them everything. I asked if they would move people to the side so we could find him. They would not answer me. I asked again. then a complete no response. Then other older parents started asking what he looked like & his apparel. My wife & I were frantic. I thought he had drowned with no help coming our way from the life guards. Another parent helped us find him outside of the pool. we were so relieved. I then started to feel at peace but angry about the non-assistance from the "Life Guards" I went to management, now is where the real horror comes. The 20 something person told me it's not there job to watch my children. There job is to keep the rules enforced. I was so upset at this point, I asked then the roll of the life guards are what? They are not there to watch for my child, but it's the water (I said). Same answer. I have to get out the water a security person to locate them. I said by that time my grandson could have drowned. She explained we are not there to watch over & locate your child. They would not move people out of the way to find or at least eliminate that possible scenario. I hope no one else has to ever go through this. Just to know they will not look or save your child or your person. You have to find security 1st. The life guards are there to enforce the rules. Be very careful if you go. Could be a life changing moment in a flash

I visit Adventureland annually with grandchildren and their moms for a cousins' getaway. The park had a two day pass this year for the price of one day, which was perfect, allowing us to focus one hot day at the water park and the second overcast day at the theme park. Our seven kids are aged 22 months through 13 and there is plenty for EVERYONE to enjoy. We rented a cabana at the waterpark and it was a perfect spot to gather, relax and reunite everyone in the shade. Would definitely recommend. All park staff are very safety conscious and kind to the kids, and lines were minimal, even at the biggest roller coasters. Good value, easy to get to, and will continue to make this an annual event. We miss staying on premises, but the Holiday Inn Express near Adventureland was great. We didn't get time to use their pool though, as we hit Adventureland from park open to close each day.

I had the scare of my life! I & my grandson were at the wave pool when I lost site of him after the waves started. The waves stopped but I still could not see or find him. I asked the life guards to help me. I gave a description plus his what he was wearing. I wanted them to clear out the people so we could locate him. They would not or would they help me. Long story he got out & was waiting outside the pool. I was told by the manger of the life guards that it is not their responsibility to watch our children nor shut down the pool to look for them. She told me I had to contact security, I was appalled by the answers. They will not shut down the pool move people out or to the side. The life guards are there for enforcing the rules. Be very careful if you think they will save your child think again.

"Really leaves a lot to be desired - your trip is what YOU make it."

I grew up going to Adventureland - my first trip was 1984. I took my son, now 6, twice in the last two weeks once with just our family and once with friends. While we had a good time and made it really special for him, the park itself is really disappointing. First, everything is so overpriced. Tickets are reasonable if you use a discount (ends up about $35 or so), but the carnival game prices are ridiculous and the food prices are just insulting. Tip culture is out of control anyway but being asked a tip screen for buying a bottle of water or food you pick up yourself is WILD. The food is super average and nearly everything you see is fried. It's 2025 and there's one place with a vegetable or fruit for sale? They're missing a huge segment of the population that doesn't want to eat fried junk in the Iowa heat and humidity. Condiments sit outside in the heat all day and aren't refilled when they're empty. Like others have mentioned, Wok & Roll isn't ever open but no signs indicating if/when it would be. Food quality is just terrible, truly. Mini donuts were hard as a rock, chicken strips tough, fried shrimp overcooked, corndog so bad it went in the trash after one bite...I mean come on. Got ice cream at Main Street Creamery the first day - the gal serving us was very obviously high, no consistency between scoop sizes (three single scoops, all completely different sizes), a "cup" is actually a styrofoam bowl? No lids or straws for drinks, which with little kids wandering with drink cups and spilling everywhere, of course everything is sticky. Yes, the environment. Even Disney uses lids and paper straws! Our first trip to Adventureland two weeks ago we spent $120 on food/drinks for 2 adults and 1 child. And left hungry! The second trip we changed the strategy, didn't buy any snacks, only one meal, and still spent $75 again for 2 adults and 1 child. And again with the tipping. Just crazy. Entrance staff are great and the staff pushing the speedy pass were super friendly and conversational (and weren't pushy!). Staff running rides and food stands need some massive customer service training. Never smiling, terrible attitudes, no attention to anything but avoiding offering customer service. We asked for ranch to be refilled at the coca cola "restaurant" and got a "no." Nothing else. I think some of the park custodial staff are trying. But man things are filthy. Bathrooms were horrible the first trip, a little better the second but not by much. Surfaces are just gross. Trash cans overflowing. Maintenance feels non-existent. So many rides need to be updated - paint, whatever. Some look like they haven't been touched since my first trip 40 years ago. The water park is crowded (as expected on a hot day) with really bizarre rules that are enforced for some people and not for others. No shorts? My son was told to take off his aqua socks after we'd been all over the park in them (and no explanation to why he had to take them off in the first place). No zippers? No snaps? They say no "thong" style suits and yet they were absolutely everywhere. It seems like they're making rules for the sake of having rules. Now, on the plus side...if you go during the week, the park is wide open - not crowded at all, virtually no lines (Saw Mill Splash was our longest line both trips - about 45 minutes the first time and over an hour the second time because one of the rafts wasn't being used). Thankfully they offer discounts, which some other parks don't. They allow you to bring in sealed water bottles and sport drinks, which is great. Bringing in a wagon is a day-saver.

AWFUL experience EVERY time we have gone this year. i am not sure what it is, but they have gone WAY downhill. and i grew up in iowa and used to frequent the park. i have a season pass this year, but will not be getting another in the future. half of the time their employees are not relayed the correct information and their wifi is down. no one cares or has any sense of urgency when something happens, NOR do they care about your experience as a customer. such a money hungry company who doesn’t care at all about their employees or customers. ew. 🤢
