This effort is apparent via its many attractions inspired by creatures of the underwater world. Likewise, it’s also important for there to be new things to do at the park. Both first-timers and return visitors should find the park fresh, fun and exciting. With that in mind, you may be wondering what’s new at SeaWorld San Diego 2020? Let’s dive in and find out!
SeaWorld San Diego 2020: Emperor Dive Coaster
Opening: Summer 2020
With the success of Electric Eel and Tidal Twister, all-new coasters that launched in 2018 and 2019 respectively, SeaWorld San Diego has its sights set on an even more daring coaster in 2020—Emperor Dive Coaster. The new coaster will be located adjacent to Journey to Atlantis.
Emperor comes from Switzerland-based Bolliger & Mabillard and will be a floorless dive coaster. Initially, SeaWorld planned to name the coaster Mako and include a shark exhibit with the attraction. However, as this is identical to the ride at SeaWorld Orlando the park decided to go with the Emperor penguin theme to differentiate it from its sister park.
- Max speeds of 60 mph
- Floorless ride car
- Ride height of 150-feet
- Drop 143-feet facedown
- Plunging 90-degree loops
- 2,400-foot-long track
This new floorless coaster attraction is billed as the tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster in California. It beats out Knott’s Berry Farm’s Hang Time by a few feet and miles per hour.
In addition to the coaster, this new attraction will feature an Emperor penguin exhibit, the bird for which the ride is named. As part of SeaWorld San Diego’s rescue and preservation efforts, the park will donate a portion of the proceeds from sales of penguin merchandise to Penguins International.
