Insider’s Guide to the STRAT Las Vegas

The Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas, Nevada, now known as the snappier STRAT, triples as a hotel, casino, and observation tower in one. It's an iconic must-see on every trip to the Entertainment Capital of the World. So, follow our STRAT Las Vegas tips for an experience that will leave you on a high!

Located on the Las Vegas strip, the STRAT Vegas is home to the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States, called the SkyPod. As if that wasn't enough, it lays claim to the world's highest controlled descent, called the SkyJump. These two activities combined with other thrill rides, fantastic dining options, and a lively casino mean there is no shortage of ways to fill your time in the largest city in Nevada.

The STRAT is owned by Golden Entertainment, a company that possesses ten different casinos. It purchased the STRAT tower in 2017.

Why You Should Go

First of all, an exciting time awaits at the top of the STRAT in the form of adrenaline-rushing thrill rides and observation decks.

There's heart-pumping fun to be had on rides Big Shot, Insanity, or X-Scream, but the real stars of the show are the SkyPod and SkyJump.  

SkyPod

If you're looking to take in the Las Vegas skyline, the SkyPod is the best seat in the house! The very top reaches 1,149 feet in the air, allowing visitors to see the whole city in all its splendor. Talk about a spectacular bird's eye view!

Photo Alert: Once you reach the top, snap a selfie to document the affair! It's not every day you reach soaring heights in the sky. Not to mention, that skyline in the background will be a stunner.

Get a good look at the views on the observation decks of levels 108 and 109. While you're at the top, you can also dine and sip on delicious morsels (more on that later!).   

SkyJump

If you want to take the experience to new, dizzying heights, the SkyJump is calling your name. Only for the brave, this attraction holds the Guinness World Record for the highest commercial decelerator descent.

It begins at a whopping 855 feet in the air and reaches dashing speeds around 40 miles per hour. Do it all at daylight, or go even bolder with a nighttime jump. Geronimo!

Other Activities

While at the STRAT, there are even more ways to spend your time. For instance, you can shop 'til you drop at the STRAT tower shops.

If you're feeling risky, try your luck on the casino floor of the STRAT! Play your way through an 80,000-square-foot space brimming with table games and slot machines.

In addition, catch a show! The MJ Live show formerly laid claim to the stage at the STRAT. However, this year a whole new act is lighting up the tower. Complete with electrifying dance moves and glow-in-the-dark costumes, the iLuminate show is like nothing you've ever seen before. 

If you'd prefer to get a good laugh, the award-winning L.A. Comedy Club of Las Vegas is conveniently located in the STRAT. Headlining comedians bring knee-slapping antics right to the hotel.

There's no wrong time of year to visit the STRAT since most of the fun takes place indoors. The SkyJump will have you soaring through the wide-open air, but, luckily, Las Vegas boasts mild winters. The city isn't typically rainy, but double-check that the usual dry weather is in the forecast if you decide to brave this attraction.

The SkyPod observation decks are open from 10 a.m. until 1 a.m. Thrill rides open at 2 p.m. and closes at the same time as the observation decks.

The SkyJump closes at 9 p.m. each day. It opens at noon on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday but opens at 3 p.m. the other days of the week.

Where to Stay

If you're going to visit the STRAT, why not stay at the STRAT? Luxury hotel rooms and rooftop pools mean there's no reason to leave once you're ready to come down from your SkyPod high. Dive into a pile of luxurious pillows and comforters to end the day on a high note!

However, the best part may be the view. Every 80 minutes, you'll get a new perspective of the Las Vegas skyline, as the restaurant revolves 360 degrees! So leave stale views and stale meals behind. The Top of the World Restaurant brings the freshest of the fresh! 

Pro Tip: Take the chance to dress to the nines when visiting this restaurant! Management enforces an upscale dress code. So, you'll need to leave beachwear, gym attire, and hats behind.

Strat Cafe

If you're looking for something a little more laid-back, the Strat Cafe has a casual vibe on the casino floor. The menu? It's full of classic comfort food. Think of anything you can find at an American diner: burgers, chicken tenders, and buttermilk pancakes.

If you prefer food that's a touch more original, they have that too! Try the crispy fried cheese ravioli, braised beef, cheddar cheese sandwich, or grilled salmon. 

In addition, the Strat Cafe offers takeout for your convenience! So if you feel like dining in the comfort of your hotel room, be our guest.

Elation Pool Cafe & Bar

Another chill option is the Elation Pool Cafe & Bar. Grab a chaise lounge at this pool on the 8th floor and settle in for a tasty feast. The relaxing waterside atmosphere will leave you rejuvenated.

The menu is small but filled with great options. Chicken wings, wraps, or burritos make a satisfying meal. Pair your fare of choice with a drink for the perfect poolside combo!

Transportation & Parking 

Las Vegas offers public transportation, but the bus, while cheap, tends to be time-consuming. Therefore, we recommend forgoing this option and taking a cab or using a ridesharing service, like Uber or Lyft. 

Pro Tip: Coming from the Las Vegas Convention Center? It's right down the street! A short taxi or bus ride will get you there in a few minutes.

Moreover, if you're taking your car, you're in luck! The STRAT offers free parking and valet. So whether you're staying for a few hours or a few nights, you can take advantage of these services!

Where Else to Go

It's clear that the STRAT packs in the entertainment. However, the Neon Capital of the World is teeming with far more to do between trips to the SkyPod! So, if you're into canyons or cars (of many other things!), read on for some of our favorite things to do in Las Vegas.

Zion and Bryce Canyon Bus Tour 

Simply wait at your hotel for the bus to pick you up and venture on a full day of spectacular sightseeing! The bus tour takes you to soak in the grandeur of the Arizona Strip, which includes sweeping sandstone canyon views, evergreen trees, and wildflower fields.

The entire excursion takes around 14 hours, so you know you're getting a complete experience!

Pro Tip: You can skip packing the snacks! The tour provides a morning snack, boxed lunch, and bottled water to make the journey even more enjoyable. 

River Dogz Paddle Board Tours

Set off on the Colorado River for a half-day of exploring via paddleboard. If you've never used a paddleboard before, no worries! The trip is geared toward beginners and includes basic instruction from your guide.

Your guide will also point out exciting sights like Emerald or Falcon Cave. Moreover, possible wildlife sightings lurk at every corner, such as Bald Eagles, Rainbow Trout, and Big Horn Sheep!
