"The Shorebird Lives on as The Reef"
TripAdvisor user rating 5 out of 5

The Shorebird was an iconic and favourite dining place for travellers to Waikiki. Situated right on the beach it's breakfast buffet was legendary. It's closure last year brought sadness and consternation. However, the good news is that The Reef has kept the same atmosphere. The buffet is back too, not quite as sumptuous, but a fine range nonetheless. The omelette range is a highlight. Breakfast overlooking the beach is always a delight. Don't miss the experience.

"Great Stay!"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5

The hotel was very nice when we pulled in. It was located in a great location next to the "hotel strip" with plenty of food and shopping locations in walking distance. The check in process was smooth and welcoming, they get you settled and give you this amazing juice they put together and a wet towel to wipe your face off after a long travel. That was very welcoming. The one thing that we weren't expecting was the hotel fee they charge daily. My travel agent didn't tell us about a daily resort fee so that caught us off guard. Other than that minor issue the check in was great. The room was nice and clean, you get two bottles of water daily free and they also have a water spot you can fill bottles with filtered water. There is a fridge in the room and coffee maker, and a nice size TV. The room was nice, the one thing I would say is if you get a room that has a inside room your balcony/window will face the hall of the opposite side and you will have to have your curtains closed your stay because people will be able to see in your room while your walking around. That was a pretty big disappointment. We stayed in room 323. The only other negative we ran into was they had their monthly maintenance of spraying for bugs. I thought they could have did that before or after we checked out between guests stay. The pool area is pretty small and stayed pretty busy. There is a bar area that is connected to the pool and we spent some time there watching the playoffs. It was a nice spot to watch the game and have a snack and a few drinks. The beach area is fairly small and you have to rent chairs to relax out by the beach. I would recommend walking down a bit going to the better part of the beach where there are less rocks in the water. In all the stay was pretty good, we didn't have much to complain about while we stayed there. We were in walking distance to just about everything we needed and there is Starbucks in the hotel.

"Disappointing Honeymoon"
TripAdvisor user rating 2 out of 5
Reviewed June 12, 2019 NEW
My husband and I have stayed at the Outrigger Reef before, however this time it was for our honeymoon. Unfortunately this time it was no where near as good as our previous stay. However, the staff and customer service is excellent so that was a plus. Firstly, we found dried blood on our quilt, what looked like bird poo on our sheets, holes in the sheets, amenities not topped up and the bathroom not being cleaned. We made a complaint and management did get onto it straight away, however it did take 2 days to change the quilt and the holes in the sheets lasted 2 day too. This is unacceptable, especially when you're paying a lot of money to stay there. The hotel itself is very dated. If you walk down to the Sheraton, Royal Hawaiian and Moana Surf Rider, you will see they are much nicer. Their pools and outdoor layout is much more modern, as well as their dining options are far superior. The Outrigger need to renovate the rooms majorly, need to fix the pool and revamp the hotel in general. If you're looking at staying somewhere nice, I would suggest the Sheraton or Royal Hawaiian. We were really disappointed in our stay and regretted booking.

"Check on"

You would think a hotel knowing a guest had arrived on an early morning flight from Tokyo would make sure that customers room was cleaned and offered as soon as possible. Nope made to wait until 3:00 PM checkin time while others came before 3:00 and receivef their rooms. I find this low level of customer support indefensible. Our view the hotel will be tarnished for the rest of our stay and I doubt we will ever use this brand again.

"relaxed and comfortable"

We stayed here for a week and loved the place, the staff were attentive and very friendly. Room service was spot on and the room was cleaned to perfection every day by a great cleaning team. Well done. We had a room with a partial view, and it was at the street end of the hotel, i was a bit concerned about that but it was superb. We had a partial view of the ocean and also a large, very large view into the marine park, palm trees and the beach all along the bay. We could sit on the balcony and watch the sun go down, gorgeous. Perfect room. The room was well appointed, with 2 bottles of water provided each day, thanks. Air con was on all the time in 29 degree heat so great to get back to the room and chill out. Saratoga street just opposite the hotel has great food outlets and an ABC store and a cafe called Bills Place, check it out, its Bill Grangers cafe (Aussie chef and food author). Outrigger reef is 5 minutes walk from Waikiki Beach. Tops marks
